This happened to me for my 2023 return. Took about 8 weeks total from hold to refund after I sent in everything they asked for. Just make sure you respond to the letter asap!
Tax pro here with some detailed info: The 570 hold is standard procedure for new dependent claims. Here's exactly what happens: - First you'll get a 4883C letter (usually within 30 days of filing) - They'll want birth certificate, SSN card, and residency proof - Processing time after sending docs is typically 6-8 weeks - If everything checks out, you'll see code 571 (hold released) Pro tip: Use taxr.ai to track your transcript changes in real-time. It's seriously the best tool I've found for staying on top of these verification cases.
this is so helpful! downloading taxr now
Check if you have any credits claimed like EIC or CTC. Those usually take longer to process and might explain the delay.
My processing date changed like 4 times last year. Its basically IRS's magic 8 ball at this point š±
The IRS is severely understaffed and dealing with millions of returns. Early filing doesn't garuantee early processing anymore. Your best bet is to use tools like taxr.ai to understand exactly where you stand instead of trying to guess what's happening
The system is rigged against us fr fr... why tf does unemployment not count as earned income when we literally paid taxes on it š¤”
ikr! make it make sense š¤®
Check if your state has any special provisions for unemployment recipients. Some states have additional credits you might qualify for!
