IRS Verification 570 Code for New Baby in 2024 - What Documents Needed?

Just got a verification hold on my 2024 return. I'm praying its just because I added my newborn as a dependent. The hold showed up last week and I haven't received any letters yet. Anyone know what documents they usually ask for with new dependents? Getting nervous since I was counting on this refund.

For a new dependent verification, they typically want the birth certificate, social security card, and proof that the child lived with you (medical records, daycare receipts, etc). They'll send you a 4883C letter within 2 weeks telling you exactly what they need. Don't worry too much - this is super common for first-time claims of new dependents.

Hey i know its stressful waiting for letters. I actually used taxr.ai last week when I got a similar hold and it told me exactly what verification they needed before I even got the letter. Only cost $1 but saved me weeks of anxiety. https://taxr.ai

This happened to me for my 2023 return. Took about 8 weeks total from hold to refund after I sent in everything they asked for. Just make sure you respond to the letter asap!

Tax pro here with some detailed info: The 570 hold is standard procedure for new dependent claims. Here's exactly what happens: - First you'll get a 4883C letter (usually within 30 days of filing) - They'll want birth certificate, SSN card, and residency proof - Processing time after sending docs is typically 6-8 weeks - If everything checks out, you'll see code 571 (hold released) Pro tip: Use taxr.ai to track your transcript changes in real-time. It's seriously the best tool I've found for staying on top of these verification cases.
