you need to verify if the irs actually recieved your return. i had this issue last year and it turns out my tax preparer submitted it but it got rejected for some reason and they never told me. i didnt find out until april when i called. check with whoever prepared your taxes!
I prepared them myself with software, and got the acceptance confirmation. But maybe I should double check...
Hey everyone- so I had almost the exact same issue a couple weeks ago. Like literally the same transcript situation. I used Claimyr to get through to an IRS agent (found them at claimyr.com) and the agent told me my return was flagged for manual review due to the education credits. Nothing I could do but wait, but at least I knew what was happening. My transcript finally updated last Friday and my refund hit my account yesterday. Sometimes you just need to talk to an actual human at the IRS to figure out what's happening.
100% works. They basically call the IRS and navigate the phone tree for you, then call you once they have an agent on the line. I'd tried calling myself over and over and got nowhere. With Claimyr I was talking to an actual IRS employee within 20 minutes. Completely worth it when you're desperate for answers.
those codes are the WORST. had them 4 months straight last year and literally no one could tell me why. couldn't get thru on the phone. ended up using claimyr.com after someone here recommended it. got me thru to an actual person who fixed it while i was on the phone. refund came a week later. calling is def the way to go.
My tax guy says those codes are super common right now - the IRS is flagging nearly everything for review this year. If your partner hasn't filed in several years, they're probably just making sure everything matches up with their records. As long as the return was accurate, you'll get the refund eventually. Just be prepared to wait 60-90 days instead of the usual 21 days they promise.
Ugh that's a long wait. Fingers crossed it doesn't take that long.
Yeah it sucks but at least it'll come eventually. The IRS is ridiculously backed up this year.
In this situation and tired of waiting? Use claimyr.com to get a direct line to an IRS agent. I was in the same boat with a paper check that never arrived. Used their service and got a callback from the IRS in 45 minutes. The agent filed a trace on my missing check right away and I had a replacement within 3 weeks. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent after trying for days on my own.
The IRS says 4 weeks is normal for paper checks - I know that doesn't help much but just wanted to share the official timeline. If it's approaching 4 weeks, then definitely prepare to call on May 10th.
Can we talk about how WMR tool is completely useless? Oh you want to know what's happening with your refund? Here's a colorful bar that tells you absolutely nothing helpful! š¤¦āāļø The IRS transcript actually shows all the real information but it's like they deliberately hide the useful stuff behind confusing codes. taxr.ai is the only reason I understood what was happening with my return - translated all that gibberish into actual English.
You just upload your transcript that you download from the IRS. I was paranoid too before I tried it. Way better than spending hours googling random codes and still not knowing what's going on.
Unpopular opinion but I'd rather wait another 3 weeks than get audited. If they're being thorough at least they're being thorough? Silver lining?
Trying to see it that way! Just wish I didn't need the money so badly right now.

Santa Barbara TPG is the absolute WORST. They hold onto our money as long as possible evry year. There should be laws against this. They already charge fees to process our refund, then they make extra money by holding our funds and collecting interest. Criminal behavior if you ask me.

ā¢š This. They're basically double-dipping on fees. Next year I'm just paying my tax prep fee upfront and getting direct deposit from the IRS.

Not sure if this is helpful but i looked up my info on the IRS website directly using taxr.ai and it showed my refund had an offset I didn't know about. That was why TPG was taking longer - they had to adjust the amount. Might not be your situation but worth checking if the delay continues.

ā¢What's an offset? Should I be worried about that?

ā¢An offset is when the government takes part of your refund to pay a debt like student loans, back taxes, child support, etc. If you don't have any of those debts you're probably fine. For me it was an old student loan I forgot about š¤¦āāļø
