I've been tracking amended return processing times for the past 3 years and your situation is unfortunately common. Here's what I've learned: โข Amended returns are processed in the order received (with few exceptions) โข ID verification is a separate process from actual return review โข Most amended returns are taking 12-18 months currently โข The IRS won't tell you what's causing delays I've found taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) incredibly helpful for understanding what's actually happening with my transcripts. It analyzes all those confusing codes and explains exactly where your return is in the process. Helped me realize my amended return was actually moving through the system when I thought it was stuck. Frustrating that we need third-party tools to understand what the IRS is doing with our money!
Have you requested your tax transcripts to check for any updates? I filed an amended return exactly 347 days ago, and while the Where's My Amended Return tool showed nothing, my transcript had 4 different updates that weren't visible anywhere else. Did you amend electronically or by paper? Paper amendments are taking exactly 16.5 months on average right now according to the last IRS operations report.
Did you receive any notices about identity verification? According to the IRS.gov updates page (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/tax-season-updates), they're sending more verification letters this year for returns with refundable credits. Worth checking your mail carefully and your online account at https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account if you haven't already.
Be careful about counting on specific dates. Under IRC ยง6402(a) and Rev. Proc. 2023-28, the IRS has extended authority to delay certain refunds for additional verification. I filed on February 1st last year with both credits, and my return got caught in a verification loop that lasted until April 15th. No explanation, no errors, just extra scrutiny that significantly delayed my refund. Make sure you have contingency plans for your business purchases in case this happens.
You need to submit Form 8379 (Injured Spouse Allocation) immediately if your ex-spouse has any federal debts that might trigger an offset! The April 15th deadline is approaching, and if you don't get this submitted, your CTC portion could be applied to their debts. The IRS won't automatically know about your divorce decree protections without this documentation.
FYI - The partial refund sitch is super common this yr. IRS is doing a 2-phase process for many returns w/ credits. Phase 1: Basic refund amt. Phase 2: CTC/EIC after verification. Avg wait time btw phases = 4-6 wks. No need to panic yet. Check your transcript for TC 570/971 combo - that's the verification hold code. They should send a letter explaining within 2 wks. Hang tight!
my brother in christ you are getting SCAMMED. I own a small business with rental properties and even I don't pay that much ๐

Don't feel stupid, just make a change! We all learn somehow

Mine was stuck on PATH forever then suddenly changed to approved yesterday! Filed Feb 1st with EITC and CTC. Have you checked your transcripts for a 846 code? That's what shows your actual refund date, even if WMR hasn't updated yet.

Just to clarify - the PATH Act message itself doesn't mean there's a problem. It's just the IRS's way of explaining why EITC/ACTC returns are held until after February 15th. Many people still see this message even when their return is processing normally. The message often doesn't update until right before your refund is issued.
