This might not be good news. Split payments sometimes indicate review flags. Different systems. Different timelines. Could mean manual review of return. Might be months more waiting. One payment doesn't guarantee the other.
Nah, don't stress too much! This is actually pretty normal this yr. Had same thing happen w/ my return. CTC came thru 3 wks b4 refund. IRS is just super backed up rn. As long as WMR doesn't show any errors or say you need to contact them, ur prob fine! The fact that they sent something to ur new acct is def a good sign they've processed at least part of ur return. Hang in there!
Be very careful with the PATH message! Last year I ignored it for weeks thinking it was just normal processing. Turns out my return had an error code that required attention, but the generic PATH message was hiding the real issue. I ended up having to: 1. Call the IRS (took 3 days to get through) 2. Verify my identity again 3. Submit additional documentation 4. Wait another 9 weeks for processing Check your transcript for TC 570 codes - don't just assume it's normal processing!
Just got my refund yesterday after being stuck on PATH message since January 28th! Here's what happened: β’ Filed Jan 28 with EITC β’ PATH message appeared immediately β’ No transcript updates until Feb 29 β’ Transcript showed TC 150 (return filed) β’ March 7 - TC 768 (EIC credit) β’ March 8 - TC 846 (refund issued) β’ March 12 - Money in my account The PATH message on WMR never changed until AFTER the deposit hit my account. System is definitely delayed this year.
Thank you for sharing this detailed timeline. It's helpful to see the exact progression of codes and dates. I'm going to check my transcript more carefully now.
Are you claiming any credits like Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Credit? Those automatically get additional scrutiny and can delay processing by 4-6 weeks. Also, did you have any marketplace insurance that requires Form 8962 reconciliation?
Just got my refund today! Filed 2/15. No updates until yesterday. Nothing on WMR. Transcript just appeared. Money in account this morning. Don't lose hope. IRS is slow this year.
I'm dealing with this right now too. I tried calling the IRS for three days straight but couldn't get through because of 'high call volume.' Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. The agent confirmed they were just doing a standard review of my return and everything was fine. The WMR tool glitch is apparently happening to lots of people this tax season. Saved me days of stress wondering what was happening!
Did they say how long the review would take? I'm in a similar situation.
The IRS systems are notoriously glitchy during peak filing season. I've worked in tax prep for years and see this all the time. Usually it resolves itself within a week. If you don't see any updates by next week, then it might be worth looking into further.

I'm concerned about what I'm seeing with WV processing compared to previous years. In 2023, my return with dependents processed in 18 days. This year, I'm at 37 days and counting. My colleague in Maryland filed the same day with similar credits and received his refund two weeks ago. Another colleague in Pennsylvania filed a week after me and already received hers. This suggests regional disparities in processing efficiency that could disadvantage WV filers if the trend continues into future tax seasons.

Has anyone else noticed that WV filers who claimed exactly two dependents seem to be getting processed faster? Or is that just coincidence in my social circle? And why does the IRS never acknowledge these regional patterns when they clearly exist? Wouldn't it be more transparent to just say 'Hey, if you're in these states, expect X timeframe' instead of the generic '21 days' that rarely applies to anyone with dependents?
