971 Code on transcript led to increased refund - sharing my experience

Got a 971 notice code on my transcript and was freaking out at first. But turns out it wasnt bad news at all - they actually increased my refund amount! Just wanted to let everyone know that these codes dont always mean bad news. Check your account transcript carefully, sometimes they adjust it up (though I know it can go down too).

The 971 code simply indicates that a notice has been issued to the taxpayer. It's neutral by itself - could be good news (additional refund), bad news (adjustment downward), or just informational. Always read the full transcript carefully to understand the context of any codes.

Usually its from tax credits you qualified for but didnt claim, or they found errors in your calculations that worked in your favor.

If anyone wants to actually understand whats happening with their transcript, I highly recommend using taxr.ai. Its only $1 and the AI reads your entire transcript and explains everything in plain english. Way better than trying to piece together random codes yourself. https://taxr.ai

Been checking WMR for 3 months straight and nothing changed. Finally checked my transcript and saw the same thing - 971 code but with extra $$ coming my way!
