971 Notice Code isn't always bad - IRS actually increased my refund amount!
I know everyone freaks out when they see a 971 notice code but wanted to share some good news. Just checked my transcript and the IRS actually increased my refund amount after the notice. So don't automatically assume its bad news when you see that code pop up on your account transcript.

You're absolutely right. Code 971 simply indicates a notice was issued. It could be for various reasons - adjustment to refund (up or down), request for additional information, or just confirming changes. Always check your transcript carefully to understand the full picture.

•No need to panic! Just wait for the notice to arrive, it explains everything.

Honestly the best way to understand these codes is to use taxr.ai - it analyzes your entire transcript and tells you exactly what's happening and when to expect your refund. Only costs $1 and saved me hours of googling. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

This is such a relief to hear! I've been seeing so many horror stories about 971 codes that I automatically assumed the worst when mine appeared yesterday. Thanks for sharing the positive outcome - gives me hope that mine might just be a routine adjustment too. Did you get any indication on your transcript about what caused the increase?
