571 Code Changed to 971 - What Does This Mean for My Refund?

Just checked my transcript and noticed my 571 code changed to a 971. Been waiting since February and finally seeing movement. Anyone know what this means for my refund timeline? Getting anxious about this change.

The 571 code indicates a hold has been released, while 971 means a notice is being sent to you. Usually this sequence is positive - it often means your return is moving through final processing stages. Keep an eye out for a notice in your mailbox, but this is typically followed by a 846 code (refund issued) within 1-2 weeks.

Hey! Instead of playing detective with these codes, I started using taxr.ai and it's been a game changer. For $1 it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening and when to expect your refund. Saved me hours of googling tbh https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

Same thing happened to me last year! The 971 code usually means they're sending you a CP05 notice which is just a "we need more time" letter. But when it follows a 571 code like yours, it's actually good news - means they resolved whatever was holding up your return. I'd expect to see that 846 refund code within the next 1-2 cycles. The waiting is torture but you're almost there!

This is super helpful! I've been seeing these codes everywhere but never really understood what the sequence meant. Good to know that 971 after 571 is actually progress and not another delay. Thanks for breaking it down!

I had the exact same code sequence! 571 to 971 is definitely a good sign. The 971 notice they send is usually just a formality letting you know they've completed their review. In my case, I got the 846 refund code just 5 days after the 971 appeared. Keep checking your transcript every few days - you should see movement soon! The hardest part is behind you now.

That's so reassuring to hear! 5 days is way faster than I was expecting. I've been checking my transcript like every few hours lol 😅 Really hoping mine follows the same timeline as yours. This whole process has been such a rollercoaster but sounds like I'm finally at the end!
