570 and 971 Codes with Same Date (March 10, 2025) - Filed January 30th
Who has 570 and 971 code with the same dates on them March 10, 2025???? Let's keep each other updated I filed & was accepted exactly on January 30th, which is now 42 days ago. I'm working remotely and really counting on this refund timing. Anyone else in the same boat with these specific codes? Would love to know what others are experiencing with these two codes showing up together.

Those codes are like traffic signals in your tax journey. The 570 is the red light - it means they've temporarily stopped processing your refund. The 971 is more like a yellow light - it means they're sending you a notice to explain why. When they share the same date, it's like a car that stopped at an intersection and the driver is about to tell you why through the window. Usually, this combination means they need to verify something or make an adjustment before proceeding. It doesn't necessarily mean rejection - more like a checkpoint.

•I had this same code combo last year. Took about 3 weeks after the date on the transcript to get my refund. Is that still the typical timeline? I'm seeing these codes on my transcript this year too, dated March 15th.

•According to IRM 21.5.6.4.35.1, doesn't the 971 notice issuance usually indicate a manual review? The Internal Revenue Manual suggests this combination often means human eyes are on your return, which explains the delay. I'm surprised by how complex this system is.

I have the same codes. Same date too. Filed January 28th. Been checking daily. No movement. Called IRS 14 times. Can't get through. Finally used Claimyr. Got an agent in 20 minutes. They confirmed review in progress. No specific issues identified. Just backlog. Might be worth the call to confirm your status too. Here's their link: https://www.claimyr.com

There are several approaches you can take with these codes: • Wait for the notice that's being generated (971 code) • Check your transcript daily for updates • Call the IRS directly at 800-829-1040 • Request a Taxpayer Advocate if it's causing financial hardship • Verify if you claimed credits that trigger additional review In my experience, these codes often resolve themselves within 14-21 days of the date shown.

•What if the notice never arrives? I've heard stories about the IRS generating notices that never get mailed out. How would someone know if action is required or if they should just keep waiting?

I'm dealing with the exact same thing! According to the IRS2Go app and several Reddit threads I've been obsessively reading, the 570/971 combo with the same date usually means they're making an adjustment to your refund amount. In my case last year, they found a math error and adjusted my refund up by $126. The notice explained everything, and I got my deposit 11 days after the date on the codes.

Have you tried analyzing your transcript with taxr.ai? It can explain what those specific code combinations mean for your particular situation. I found it helpful when I had similar codes last year. The site breaks down each code and gives you a timeline prediction based on your specific transcript. Have you received any other notices or updates since filing? Does your transcript show any other codes besides the 570/971?

I might be able to offer some hope here. I had these exact codes (570/971 with same date) about three weeks ago. My transcript updated yesterday, showing an 846 code (refund issued) for next Wednesday. It seems like, in most cases, these codes might delay things by approximately 2-3 weeks, but the process does eventually move forward without requiring any action on our part.

Tax professional here. The 570/971 code combination with identical cycle dates typically indicates one of several potential scenarios: 1. Refund freeze pending verification of income or credits claimed 2. Mathematical adjustment being processed by the IRS 3. Identity verification requirement 4. Offset determination for past-due obligations The TC 971 generates a CP notice that will explain the specific reason. Based on current processing patterns, you should expect correspondence within 7-10 business days of the date shown on your transcript. The resolution timeframe varies significantly based on the underlying cause, ranging from 2-8 weeks from the date of the codes.

•So there's definitely a notice coming in the mail? I have the same codes and was worried I might miss something important. Should I be watching for a specific letter number?

•I've observed this pattern consistently during the past three tax seasons. Approximately 68% of taxpayers with this code combination receive mathematical adjustments rather than verification requests, particularly those who filed before mid-February.

•Thanks for breaking this down so clearly! I've been helping folks in my community with tax questions, and this explanation is gold. Will definitely share this info with others who are seeing these codes.

I'm in a similar situation, but my codes appeared in late February. Compared to what happened with my sister's return, which had the same codes, she ended up waiting about 35 days total before seeing movement. My brother-in-law, on the other hand, had these codes and then got an identity verification letter, which added another 6 weeks to his processing time. I'm nervous about which path mine will take.

I experienced this exact scenario during the previous tax cycle. The 570 code indicates a refund hold while the 971 code signifies a notice generation. In my particular case, the IRS had recalculated my Child Tax Credit eligibility based on AGI thresholds. The notice arrived approximately 7 days after the transcript date, and my refund was processed 14 days thereafter with the adjusted amount.

Just to clarify - are you seeing these codes on your 2024 Account Transcript (not Return Transcript)? I filed on January 29th, 2025, and just got these same codes yesterday with the March 10th date. My understanding is that the date shown (March 10th) is when the action was taken internally, not necessarily when we'll receive any notice or resolution.

I'm in the exact same situation! Filed January 31st and got both 570 and 971 codes with March 10th date. Been 41 days for me too. This is my first time seeing these codes together and honestly been losing sleep over it. Reading through everyone's experiences here is actually really reassuring - sounds like most people eventually get their refunds processed, just with delays. I'm working from home too and was really counting on this money for some overdue bills. Going to check my transcript daily and watch for that notice in the mail. Thanks for starting this thread, it's helpful to know we're not alone in this!

•I'm in the same boat! Filed February 2nd and just noticed these codes appeared on my transcript yesterday. It's actually comforting to see so many people with the same experience - I was starting to think something was seriously wrong with my return. The waiting is the worst part, especially when you're depending on that refund. Have you tried setting up text alerts through the IRS2Go app? I just did that so I don't have to obsessively check my transcript every day. Fingers crossed we all get good news soon!

I'm in the exact same situation! Filed January 28th and just got these 570/971 codes with March 10th date showing up on my transcript. Been refreshing that thing way too much lately. After reading through everyone's responses here, I'm feeling a bit more optimistic that this is just part of the process rather than a major problem. The traffic light analogy really helped put it in perspective. Has anyone who got their refund after these codes noticed if the final amount matched what they originally expected, or did most people end up with adjustments? I'm trying to figure out if I should prepare for a different amount than what I calculated.

•I'm new here but dealing with the exact same thing! Filed January 29th and just saw these codes pop up yesterday. From what I'm reading in this thread, it sounds like most people either get the same amount or sometimes even a little more due to math corrections in their favor. The waiting is definitely nerve-wracking though - I keep checking my transcript multiple times a day even though I know nothing's going to change that fast. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here, makes me feel less alone in this process!

I'm dealing with the exact same codes and timeline! Filed January 29th and just saw the 570/971 combo appear on my transcript with March 10th date. Been 43 days now and I was starting to panic, but reading through everyone's experiences here is really reassuring. It sounds like this is more common than I thought and most people do eventually get their refunds processed. I'm also working remotely and was really counting on this refund for some upcoming expenses. The traffic light analogy really helped me understand what's happening - just a temporary stop while they sort things out. Going to try to be more patient and stop checking my transcript 5 times a day (easier said than done!). Thanks StarSurfer for starting this discussion, it's so helpful to connect with others going through the same thing right now.

•Hey Jacob! I'm new to this community but in the exact same boat - filed January 31st and just got these same 570/971 codes yesterday with the March 10th date. Been 42 days for me too and I was honestly freaking out until I found this thread. It's such a relief to see so many people with identical situations and timelines. I'm also working from home and really need this refund, so the waiting has been stressful. After reading everyone's experiences, it seems like we're all part of some kind of batch processing delay rather than having individual problems with our returns. Planning to stop obsessively checking my transcript too (we'll see how that goes!). Really grateful for this discussion - makes the waiting so much more bearable knowing we're not alone in this.
