Won DEO appeal but no payments after decision reversal - who to contact?
Hi everyone, I'm really frustrated and need some help. I had to appeal my DEO determination back in August when they wrongly denied my benefits saying I quit voluntarily (I was actually laid off). The appeal hearing was in late September, and I just got the decision letter dated October 10th saying the decision was REVERSED in my favor! The letter says I'm eligible and should get benefits for all those weeks I claimed while waiting. But... it's been almost 3 weeks, and not a single payment has hit my account! I check CONNECT every day - still shows $0 on all those weeks. There's no pending adjudication issues showing anymore. Who can I actually call about this? I've tried the regular DEO number but either get disconnected or wait for hours. Is there a special appeals department or someone who handles post-appeal payments? My rent is already late and I need this money ASAP.

Just wait another week or so. The system always takes time to process stuff after decisions get reversed. Sometimes up to a month.

•A MONTH?! The decision letter specifically says I should get paid within 10 business days of the decision date. I can't wait another 2 weeks - I'm about to get evicted!

Congrats on winning your appeal! The payments should be processed automatically, but there's often a delay between the appeal decision and when the system updates your payment status. You need to call the DEO Appeals Unit directly at 1-800-204-2418 and specifically ask for the "Post-Appeal Payment Processing" department. Have your appeal decision number ready (it should be on the top of your reversal letter). If they say they see it's been approved but still processing, ask for an expedited payment due to financial hardship. Keep checking CONNECT daily - when they process it, you'll likely see all back weeks change status at once. The payments typically go out 48 hours after status change.

•Thank you! I've been trying that number all morning but can't get through... it just keeps saying "all representatives are busy" and hangs up. Is there any email address I can try? Or do I need to physically go to a CareerSource office?

I went through the EXACT same thing in August after winning my appeal. The problem is most likely that while the appeal was approved, there's a separate department that has to "release" the payments in the system. It's frustrating because they don't explain this anywhere. I spent 4 days calling over 100 times before finally getting through to someone who could help. They had to manually submit a "payment release request" after the appeal victory. Got all my back payments about 5 days after that call. Try using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - it's what finally worked for me. They have a system that gets you through to a live DEO agent without spending all day calling. There's a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj. Once I got through, I asked specifically for the "Appeals Payment Processing" specialist, and they transferred me to the right department.

You need to call the Benefits Payment Control Unit - not the regular DEO line and not the Appeals Unit. They're the ones who handle releasing funds after an appeal decision reversal. Their direct number is 850-617-0800, but honestly it's just as hard to reach someone there. What I recommend is monitoring CONNECT at 8:00am exactly when they update the system. You might see your claim status change to "Processed" before any money actually moves. Also double-check that your payment method (direct deposit or Way2Go card) is correctly set up in the system - sometimes the appeals process can cause that to glitch. Important: Make sure you haven't missed responding to any fact-finding questionnaires that might have been added to your CONNECT inbox while waiting for the appeal. That can silently hold up payments.

•I checked and my payment method is definitely correct (direct deposit to my checking account). I don't see any new fact-finding questionnaires in my inbox either. I'll try that Benefits Payment Control Unit number tomorrow morning. Thanks!

the deo is so incompetent!!! i won my appeal in may and didn't get paid until JULY!!!! they do this on purpose hoping ppl will give up. keep calling every single day and ask for a supervisor immediately when u get someone. don't let them transfer u or say they'll "put in a request" bc thats bs. demand to speak to a payment specialist!!!!!!!

•This isn't entirely accurate. While I understand your frustration, the DEO doesn't deliberately withhold payments. There's actually a specific protocol for post-appeal payments. After an appeal reversal, the system has to go through a verification process where they check each claimed week individually against the new determination. OP, what you need is to speak with someone in the "Special Projects" department - they handle payments after appeal reversals. Regular agents often don't even know this department exists. When you call, specifically ask for "Special Projects" or "Appeal Payment Processing" and explain you have a reversed determination from October 10th with no payments released yet.

Just checking back - any updates? Were you able to reach someone using any of the methods suggested?

•UPDATE: I finally got through! Used that Claimyr service someone mentioned and got connected to a real person in about 15 minutes (after days of failed attempts on my own). The agent confirmed my appeal was approved in the system but said there was a "technical flag" that needed to be removed manually. They submitted an "expedited payment release request" and said I should see the funds within 3 business days. She explained that sometimes the system doesn't automatically process payments after appeals even though it's supposed to. Fingers crossed!

That's great news! The "technical flag" they mentioned is actually common after appeals. It's essentially a system protection to prevent automatic payments until someone reviews the case one final time. Since you got them to submit an expedited release, you should definitely see movement soon. Make sure to continue claiming weeks during this time if you're still unemployed. And check your CONNECT account each morning - you'll likely see all the back weeks change status to "Processed" before the money actually hits your bank account.

•FINAL UPDATE: The money came through! All 9 weeks of back payments hit my account this morning. Total was $3,825 which is a lifesaver right now. For anyone else dealing with this issue after winning an appeal, definitely be persistent and specifically ask for the "technical flag" to be removed and request an expedited payment release. Thanks everyone for your help!
