What tax form does Florida DEO send for unemployment benefits and how to get a copy?
I completely forgot about taxes until my wife mentioned we need to account for my unemployment benefits from last year. What form am I supposed to receive from DEO for filing taxes? Is it a 1099-G? I never got anything in the mail or email. Do they even mail them anymore or is it all online now through CONNECT? Can someone walk me through where/how to find this tax document on the DEO website? I've been logged into my account and can't seem to find it anywhere.

Yes, it's the 1099-G form you need! DEO stopped automatically mailing them out a few years ago - now everything is electronic through CONNECT. Here's how to access it: 1. Log into your CONNECT account 2. On the left menu, click on "View and Maintain Account Information" 3. Then click on "1099-G Information" 4. Select the tax year you need 5. You can view it online and print it, or request an official copy be mailed to you If you can't find it or the system won't let you access it (which happens sometimes), call the DEO at 1-833-FL-APPLY (1-833-352-7759) to request they mail you a copy. But be prepared to wait on hold FOREVER.

•Thank you!! I'll try those steps right now. The "View and Maintain Account Information" option sounds familiar but I don't remember seeing a 1099-G option specifically. If I can't find it I'll have to call, though I'm dreading that hold time...

•Thank you! Yeah the navigation is definitely not intuitive. Did you have any issues printing it? Sometimes my browser blocks downloads from government sites.

I tried for HOURS to get my 1099-G through CONNECT and the system kept giving me an error! Kept saying "unable to process request at this time" every single time. WHAT A JOKE!!! I finally had to call the DEO and of course got disconnected FOUR TIMES before finally getting through. The whole thing took almost 3 days of my life I'll never get back. DEO is the most incompetent agency in Florida and that's really saying something!!! Good luck getting through their phone system - you'll need it!!

•Oh no, that sounds terrible! I'm actually trying the steps now and getting an error too. Was there a specific number or option you had to select when calling to get to the right department?

If you're getting an error in CONNECT when trying to access your 1099-G, there are a few workarounds: 1. Try a different browser - Chrome seems to work better than Firefox or Safari with CONNECT 2. Clear your browser cache and cookies before logging in 3. If that doesn't work, you can email TaxDocuments@deo.myflorida.com with your name, last 4 of SSN, and which tax year you need. Include "1099-G Request" in the subject line. 4. If all else fails and you need to call, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through the phone system. They have a service that gets you to an actual DEO agent without waiting on hold for hours. I was skeptical but they got me through in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj Just make sure to have your claimant ID ready when you call.

•Thank you for these tips! I've tried Chrome and Edge with no luck. I'll try clearing my cache next. If that doesn't work, I'll definitely check out that email option first - seems easier than calling. I appreciate all the suggestions!

Alternatively, you can also request your 1099-G directly from the IRS if you can't get it from DEO. Go to IRS.gov and use the "Get Transcript" tool. You can view your tax transcripts which should show unemployment compensation reported to the IRS. Not as good as the actual form but works in a pinch for filing your taxes.

•That's really helpful to know - I didn't realize the IRS would have that information already. If I can't get the form from DEO directly, I'll try this approach. Thanks!

I just went through this whole process last week! The email option that someone mentioned above (TaxDocuments@deo.myflorida.com) worked for me after I tried everything else. I sent my request on a Tuesday and had the 1099-G in my email by Thursday morning. One important thing to know - if you didn't opt for tax withholding when you were collecting benefits, you might end up owing taxes. I didn't have taxes withheld and got hit with a pretty big tax bill. Just something to prepare for if you weren't having taxes taken out of your weekly benefits.

•Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm glad the email worked quickly for you. And thanks for the tax withholding reminder - I did have taxes withheld but I know many people forget about that option.

Quick update: DEO has been having technical issues with their 1099-G system this tax season. If you requested your form after January 31st and still haven't received it, it's likely due to the backlog they're experiencing. According to their latest update, they're working through requests in the order received. If it's been more than 10 business days since your request, definitely follow up.

UPDATE: I finally got my 1099-G! For anyone else struggling, here's what worked for me: 1. I tried clearing my cache and using a different browser - no luck 2. Sent an email to TaxDocuments@deo.myflorida.com with my info as suggested 3. After 3 days with no response, I used the Claimyr service mentioned above to get through to DEO 4. The agent was able to email me the 1099-G while on the phone The form shows I received $4,625 in benefits with $462 in federal taxes withheld. Just wanted to update in case anyone else runs into the same issue. Thanks everyone for your help!
