DEO payment delay after holiday weekend - rep says no issues but money still pending

I'm getting concerned about my recent unemployment payment. Filed my claim on Monday as usual, but it's still showing as pending in CONNECT. Normally I file Monday and see my funds on Wednesday without fail. This week - nothing. After a ridiculous 2+ hour wait on the phone, the DEO rep told me there aren't any issues flagged on my account and blamed it on "holiday processing delays." She couldn't even tell me when to expect the payment! Has the holiday weekend really caused this much backup in their system? Anyone else experiencing unusual delays this week? I've got rent due Monday and I'm starting to worry...

This happened to me last month after Memorial Day. My payment was 4 days later than usual even though the rep said everything was fine. The holiday definitely slows down their system processing - I think they run on a skeleton crew and have to manually review more claims than usual. Just keep checking your CONNECT account 2-3 times daily. If it goes beyond 7 business days, then you should definitely call back and push for more information.

Thanks for sharing your experience. 4 days would put me at Monday which is cutting it super close with my rent. Did your status in CONNECT change at all while you were waiting or did it just suddenly switch to paid?

DEO is THE WORST about holiday delays. They never announce it anywhere but it happens EVERY single holiday. Independence Day weekend last year they were delayed almost a full week! The most frustrating part is when you call they just say "wait" with no actual timeline. It's like they expect us to just magically pay our bills without the money we're entitled to!! Have you tried checking if your payment status changed from "pending" to anything else in CONNECT?

Still showing pending in CONNECT with no status change. I've checked about 10 times today. You're right - they don't communicate these delays at all! Would be so helpful if they just posted a notice about holiday processing times.

Holiday delays are common with DEO but not usually more than 1-2 business days unless there's another issue. When you look at your CONNECT account, check the "Determination, Pending Issues and Decision Summary" section. Sometimes there's a hidden issue that the phone rep might have missed or not been able to see. Also, verify the "Weekly Benefit Details" section shows your claim as processed - that will tell you if it's just a payment delay or actually still being processed.

Just double-checked both sections. Nothing showing under Pending Issues (which is good I guess) and the Weekly Benefit Details shows "Processed" with the correct amount, but payment status is still pending. So it looks like it's just the actual money transfer that's held up?

Yes, that's actually a good sign. If it shows as processed with no pending issues, it means your claim is approved and just waiting for the payment to be released to your account. This is typical of the holiday delay pattern. Most likely you'll see it by Monday, but it could come through any time. The payment processing is separate from the claim approval system.

my cousin works at a bank and says ACH transfers (which is what DEO uses) always take longer around holidays. not just unemployment but ALL govt payments

I was in this exact situation back in February after Presidents Day weekend. Waited 3 hours on the phone only to be told to "just wait" - SO frustrating. I ended up using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual DEO agent who could help. They got me connected to DEO in about 15 minutes instead of hours of busy signals and disconnects. The agent was able to see that my payment was actually approved but stuck in their system queue. Check out their video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj. Definitely worth it when you need to get real answers about your money!

Another thing to watch out for - sometimes they'll say "holiday delay" when it's actually that stupid quarterly wage review they do! If you worked ANY job in the past 3-6 months and then went back on unemployment, they sometimes automatically flag your account for review even though there's nothing wrong. It happened to me and the first rep said it was just a "delay" but when I called back, a different rep told me the truth about the wage review hold. Keep calling until you get someone who actually looks at your account properly!!!

Hmm, I did pick up a part-time job for a few weeks in April but reported all earnings. Could that be triggering some kind of review? I'll definitely mention that specifically if I call again.

Just as an update for anyone following this thread in the future - these post-holiday delays typically clear up within 5-7 business days. The DEO system runs on older technology that requires more manual processing than most people realize. Since payments are batched and processed in queues, holiday backlogs can take several days to clear completely. If you're experiencing this, make sure you: 1. Verify there are no pending issues in your CONNECT account 2. Check that your claim shows as "processed" in the Weekly Benefit Details 3. Continue claiming weeks on your regular schedule 4. If it exceeds 7 business days, call DEO for specific account review The system is frustrating but usually works itself out with a bit of patience.

Thank you for this detailed explanation! This makes me feel better about waiting. I'll give it until Tuesday before I panic and start calling again.

UPDATE: Payment finally hit my account this morning! That was 5 days later than normal. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. For anyone reading this later - yes, holiday weekends really do cause major delays in the DEO payment system, so plan accordingly!

Glad to hear it came through! Always a good idea to build in a little extra time cushion around holidays for DEO payments. Thanks for updating the thread so others will know what to expect.
