DEO claim 'on hold' for 12 weeks with no explanation - anyone else waiting this long?

So my DEO claim has been 'on hold' since February 10th and it's driving me INSANE. I've called the DEO hotline at least 30 times in the past month, and either get disconnected immediately or wait 2+ hours only to have someone tell me they 'can't see why it's on hold' and that 'someone will call me back.' NOBODY EVER CALLS BACK!! I was laid off from my restaurant management job and have bills piling up. My CONNECT dashboard just says 'pending issue' with zero explanation. Is 3 months normal for a hold?? How are people supposed to survive?? Has anyone actually had a hold resolved, or am I just stuck in unemployment purgatory forever??

Three months is definitely excessive, but unfortunately not unheard of. The system might have flagged something in your application that requires manual review. Most holds should be resolved within 3-4 weeks at most. Have you checked if there's any 'Fact Finding' questionnaires in your CONNECT inbox that need to be completed? Sometimes those get missed and your claim stays on hold until you respond.

I've checked my inbox like 50 times and there's NOTHING there! No fact finding, no messages, absolutely zero explanation for why my claim is on hold. It just says 'pending issue' with no details. It's like they WANT people to give up...

I was stuck in the same situation for 9 weeks last year. What finally worked for me was using Claimyr to get through to an actual DEO agent who could see what was happening with my claim. Their system connects you to DEO without the hours of redial hell. I watched their video demo (https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj) and was connected to an agent in about 20 minutes. The agent was able to see that my claim was flagged for employment verification but the notice never showed up in my CONNECT inbox. Worth checking out their site at claimyr.com if you're desperate - honestly saved my sanity.

Is that service legit tho? Sounds sketchy to pay someone just to talk to DEO when its supposed to be free. No offense just wondering

It's definitely legit - they don't handle your claim or anything, they just connect your call to DEO. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after 2 months of getting nowhere. The DEO agent I spoke with was the official Florida unemployment office, Claimyr just got me past the busy signals.

I didn't even think about contacting my rep! That's a good idea, I'll try looking up who mine is. At this point I'll try literally anything.

The DEO system is DESIGNED to be impossible to navigate. They WANT people to give up so they don't have to pay benefits!!! I waited FIVE MONTHS last year before my claim was finally approved. Every week it was a different excuse. First "employment verification", then "wage investigation", then "adjudication". It's all bureaucratic nonsense to delay paying people what they're owed. The whole system is CORRUPT!!!

While the system definitely has problems, most holds actually do have legitimate reasons behind them. The bigger issue is the lack of transparency and communication from DEO about what's causing the hold and where you are in the process. Five months is extremely unusual though - most claims are resolved within 4-6 weeks even with issues.

LEGITIMATE REASONS?? Then why don't they TELL YOU what those reasons are?? Why is it impossible to talk to a human who can actually help? Why do they say they'll call you back and NEVER DO?? The system is broken BY DESIGN!

My claim was on hold for about 6 weeks and what fixed it was going in person to the CareerSource office. The DEO rep there was able to look up my claim and saw that they needed additional wage verification that never showed in my CONNECT inbox. I brought my paystubs the next day and my claim was approved within a week. Might be worth checking if there's a CareerSource office near you with DEO staff onsite.

I didn't realize CareerSource could help with that! There's one about 30 minutes from me, I'll try going there tomorrow. Did you need an appointment or could you just walk in?

I just walked in, but it probably depends on your local office. Might be worth calling ahead. Bring ID and any employment documents you have (separation notice, paystubs, etc.) just in case.

I work in HR and deal with unemployment claims all the time. A few things to try: 1) Call RIGHT when they open at 7:30am - less wait time 2) Ask specifically if there are any "determinations pending employer response" - sometimes your former employer hasn't responded to DEO's inquiry 3) Request to speak with a claim adjudicator specifically, not just a frontline rep 4) Check if your identity verification through ID.me is complete - that's a common hold reason. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I'll try calling right at 7:30 tomorrow. I did complete the ID.me verification already, that went through fine. My former employer said they approved the claim on their end too, so I'm completely confused about what could be causing this.

UPDATE: Based on everything here, it sounds like you have a few good next steps: 1) Try visiting CareerSource in person, 2) Contact your state representative, 3) Try calling right at opening time or consider using a service to connect you, and 4) Specifically ask to speak with an adjudicator who can see the detailed status of your claim. One of these approaches should help break through the logjam. Please let us know what ends up working!

Thanks everyone for all the advice! I'm going to try CareerSource tomorrow morning, and if that doesn't work, I'll try calling right when they open on Monday. If all else fails, I'll look into the Claimyr service. I'll update once I (hopefully) get some answers!
