DEO account shows $0 balance but unclaimed weeks - confused about job search requirements
I'm so confused about my CONNECT account right now. My balance is showing $0 but it's also showing that I have weeks that haven't been requested or claimed yet. How is that possible? When I try to click to request the weeks, it makes me answer a bunch of questions and then tells me I need to show 5 job searches for each week. I thought if my balance was $0, that meant I didn't have benefits left? Do I still need to claim these weeks even with a zero balance? And are the 5 job searches required for every single week? I've never had to do this many before. Any help would really be appreciated because I don't want to mess anything up!

This actually happens more often than you'd think. A $0 balance could mean several things - either your benefit year has expired, you've exhausted your regular benefits, or there's a pending issue on your claim. When you see unclaimed weeks with a $0 balance, you should still claim them because: 1. Your claim might be under review and the balance will update after adjudication 2. You might qualify for a different benefit type that hasn't been applied yet 3. If you're transitioning between benefit programs, the system sometimes shows $0 until the new program kicks in And yes, Florida now requires 5 work search activities per week for regular unemployment. Make sure you're keeping detailed records of all your job applications with company name, position, date applied, contact info, etc.

•Thank you so much for explaining! I didn't realize my benefits could still be under review. How long does adjudication usually take? Should I continue claiming weeks until something changes?

I had the EXACT same issue last month!! It's so frustrating. The $0 balance doesn't necessarily mean you're out of benefits. Mine was showing $0 for almost 3 weeks but then suddenly updated to the correct amount after I kept claiming my weeks. DEO's system is seriously messed up. Keep claiming those weeks and make sure you do all 5 job searches for each week! Document EVERYTHING because they might request proof later. The whole system is designed to discourage people from getting the benefits they deserve IMO.

•Same here!! My account showed $0 for like a month but I kept claiming weeks anyway. Then randomly got backpaid for everything at once. Their computer system is from the stone age I swear.

If you need to speak with a DEO agent about this (which I recommend), try using Claimyr. I was in the same boat - zero balance but weeks to claim, and couldn't get through on the regular DEO phone line after trying for days. Claimyr connected me with a DEO agent in about 25 minutes when I'd been trying for over a week on my own. They explained that my claim had an adjudication hold that was causing the $0 balance. Check out their demo video at https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj or go to claimyr.com. Way better than getting disconnected 50 times in a row.

•Yeah it does work. I was super skeptical too but was desperate after being hung up on repeatedly for days. They got me through to a real agent who fixed my issue.

ur supposed to keep claiming even with $0 balance!! my sister-in-law works at careersource and she says ppl miss out on $$$ all the time bc they stop claiming when balance hits 0. sometimes its a glitch, sometimes there switching u to different program, sometimes appeal pending. ALWAYS CLAIM UR WEEKS!!! and yeh u need 5 job searches each week now, its stupid but thats florida for ya.

•Thanks for confirming! I'll definitely keep claiming then. Do you know if I should be doing anything else besides claiming and doing the job searches? Should I be calling DEO?

One more important thing - make sure you log into your CONNECT account at least once every 7 days. If there's any fact finding or additional information needed, they'll post it there, and they don't always send email notifications. The 5 work search requirements can be met through different activities: - Actual job applications (online or in-person) - Creating/uploading resumes on job sites - Attending job fairs or workshops (virtual ones count too) - Networking events - Registration with CareerSource Florida Keep evidence of everything - screenshots, confirmation emails, etc. And yes, definitely continue claiming weeks even with a $0 balance showing.

•This is super important advice! They'll sneak in those fact finding questions and if you miss the deadline to respond, they'll disqualify you. The system is honestly designed to make people fail. And the "evidence" part is crucial - they randomly selected me for an audit and wanted proof of ALL my work searches going back 2 months!

When I went through this last year, I found out my claim had been flagged for "adjudication" because my former employer contested something. My balance showed $0 for about 4 weeks while this was being resolved. After they finished investigating, my balance was updated and I received all my back payments at once. Have you checked the "Determination, Pending Issues and Decision Summary" section in your CONNECT account? That's where you'd see if there's an adjudication hold or pending issue that's causing the $0 balance. Also check for any fact finding questions they might be waiting for you to answer.

•I didn't even know about that section! I just checked and there is something there about "adjudication" and "monetary determination" but I don't understand what it means. There's a date from 3 weeks ago. Does that mean they've been reviewing my claim for 3 weeks already?

•Yes, that's exactly what it means. The date shows when the issue was identified and sent to adjudication. Unfortunately, DEO is severely backlogged on adjudications right now - some are taking 4-8 weeks to resolve. But keep claiming your weeks because once they resolve it, you'll get paid for all weeks claimed (assuming they rule in your favor).

•I was laid off when my company downsized. My employer confirmed that in their response to DEO, so that shouldn't be the issue. Could it be something else?

Based on everything you've shared, it sounds like your claim is in adjudication, which is why you're seeing the $0 balance but still have weeks to claim. Here's what I recommend: 1. Continue claiming all available weeks and completing the 5 work searches for each week 2. Try calling DEO at 1-833-FL-APPLY (1-833-352-7759) to check on the status of your adjudication 3. Check your CONNECT inbox and Determination section daily for updates 4. Make sure your contact information is up to date in case they need to reach you Adjudication can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks depending on their current backlog. It's frustrating, but as long as you keep claiming weeks and doing your work searches, you should eventually receive payment for all eligible weeks once the issue is resolved.

•Thank you everyone for all the helpful advice! I'm going to keep claiming my weeks and doing the job searches. I'll try calling DEO tomorrow to see if I can get more information about what's happening with my claim. Fingers crossed this gets resolved soon!
