Can I claim missed DEO weeks from July without computer access?
Lost my internet connection right after the 4th of July and couldn't claim my unemployment weeks for almost 3 weeks. I was staying with my sister after my apartment flooded and she doesn't have wifi. By the time I got back home, CONNECT says I can't claim those weeks anymore. I'm freaking out because that's almost $1,100 I desperately need for rent. Has anyone successfully requested backdating for missed weeks recently? The DEO website is confusing me with all the talk about 'good cause' and I can't get through on the phone. Please help!

•Really?? That can't be right. They can't just keep my money because of a flood!

Yes, you can request to claim weeks after they've expired, but you need to prove 'good cause' for why you missed them. A documented flood in your apartment would likely qualify. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call DEO and specifically ask for a 'Request to Backdate Claim Weeks' form 2. Explain your situation - lack of computer access due to flood displacement 3. Provide any documentation of the flood (insurance claim, landlord correspondence, etc.) 4. Be prepared to complete your work search requirements for those weeks retroactively DEO is strict, but they do make exceptions for legitimate issues outside your control.

•Thank you!! Do I need to keep claiming my current weeks while I wait for this to be processed? Also, I don't have formal documentation since my renter's insurance denied the claim (long story). Will a statement from my sister confirming I was staying with her work?

•How long did the process take? I've been trying to reach DEO for an adjudication issue for over 14 days now and can't get through. It's ridiculous how they expect people to follow strict deadlines but then make it impossible to actually contact them!

Don't waste time with the regular DEO phone line - I was in a similar situation and spent WEEKS trying to get through. Finally I found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to a DEO agent in about 20 minutes instead of waiting days. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj Once I got through to a real person, they processed my backdate request right away and I was able to claim my missed weeks the next day. Just make sure you can document WHY you missed the claim weeks - a flood is definitely considered good cause.

•Thank you SO MUCH. Going to try this now because I've been calling for 3 days straight with no luck. Did you have to provide documentation for your good cause reason?

•I tried Claimyr last month when my account got locked after ID.me verification. It actually worked but the agent told me that missed weeks are harder to get approved now than they were during COVID. You need to submit a formal appeal, not just talk to an agent on the phone.

FLORIDA DEO IS THE WORST!!! They make their system complicated ON PURPOSE to deny benefits!! I missed ONE week last year because I was in the hospital and they refused my backdating request. Said I should've had someone else claim for me. RIDICULOUS! How is someone supposed to predict when they'll be hospitalized????? That said, a natural disaster like a flood is one of their listed 'good cause' reasons so you MIGHT have better luck than I did. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING and expect to appeal if they deny you first.

•That's terrible! I'm sorry they did that to you. Did you try appealing? I'm going to start gathering whatever documentation I can find about the flood.

Important: While you're working on getting those missed weeks, make sure you're claiming your current weeks on time! Many people focus so much on fixing past issues that they miss more weeks and compound the problem. Also, when you speak with DEO, ask specifically about Form DEO-BEB4 (Request for Backdating). This is what they use for processing missed weeks claims. The form allows you to specify dates and reasons for missing weeks. Computer/internet access issues related to natural disasters are specifically listed as acceptable reasons. One last tip: Check if your local CareerSource office can help. Sometimes they can facilitate communication with DEO better than trying on your own.

•Thank you! I didn't know about Form DEO-BEB4. I've been making sure to claim my current weeks while trying to fix this. CareerSource is a good idea - there's one about 20 minutes from me that I could visit tomorrow.

•That might work if you only miss one week, but OP is talking about missing THREE weeks. That's a lot of money to just give up on without trying!

UPDATE: I got through to DEO finally using that Claimyr service someone suggested. The agent was super helpful and said my flood situation definitely counts as good cause! I need to upload a statement explaining what happened along with any documentation I have (pictures of the flood damage, text messages about staying with my sister, etc.) within 7 days. Then they'll review my case and hopefully let me claim those missed weeks. For anyone else dealing with this - they said the key things they look for with missed weeks are: 1. Was the reason truly beyond your control? 2. Did you try to find an alternative way to claim (like public library computers)? 3. Did you request the backdating as soon as reasonably possible? Thanks everyone for your help! I'll update again when I hear their decision.

•Great news! Make sure your statement is detailed and specific about dates, what happened with the flood, and why you couldn't access alternative computers. Also mention any attempts you made to contact DEO during that time. The more specific, the better. Good luck!
