SDI maternity leave extension: No option to certify for continued payments after doctor submitted paperwork. Help!

I'm having trouble with my SDI extension for maternity leave. My doctor submitted the paperwork, but I haven't received any payments. The website says I need to "certify for continued payments," but there's no option to do that anywhere. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to get this sorted out?

Ugh, the SDI system is such a mess! I had a similar issue last year. Have you tried calling them directly? It's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way to get things moving.

I've been trying to call for days, but the lines are always busy. It's so frustrating!

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold that way.

30 minutes? You got lucky! I was on hold for 3 hours last time 😭

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

Yeah, it does! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration.

$20 seems steep just to make a phone call. Is it worth it?

For me, it was totally worth it. Time is money, and I wasted so much time trying to get through on my own.

Have you checked your spam folder? Sometimes important emails from SDI end up there. Also, make sure your contact info is up to date in the system.

This happened to me too! Turns out there was a glitch in their system. I had to go to the local office in person to get it sorted out. It sucks, but it might be your best bet.

Oof, I was hoping to avoid that. How long did it take to resolve once you went in person?

It took about 2 hours of waiting, but they fixed it on the spot. Bring all your paperwork just in case!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Take screenshots of your account showing no certification option. 2. Write down all the dates - when you applied, when your doctor submitted paperwork, etc. 3. If you can't get through on the phone, try their social media. Sometimes they respond faster there. 4. As a last resort, contact your local state representative. They can sometimes intervene on your behalf. 5. Keep certifying by paper if possible. You can download the form from their website and mail it in. Hang in there! The system is frustrating, but persistence pays off.

This is why we need better systems for parental leave. Other countries have it figured out, why can't we? 😤

Preach! 👏 My cousin in Canada had zero issues with her maternity leave. We're so behind.

lets not turn this into a political discussion. OP needs practical advice, not a debate

I work in HR and deal with this stuff all the time. Sometimes there's a delay between when the doctor submits the paperwork and when it's processed in the system. Give it a few more days, and if nothing changes, definitely call or visit an office in person.

Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get the benefits we're entitled to? The whole system needs an overhaul imho
