SDI Nightmare: Doctor in India, Insurance Company Ghosting Me - What Now?
I applied for short term disability insurance and now I'm stuck in limbo. The insurance company says they need more info from my doctor, but my doc hasn't gotten any forms to fill out. To make matters worse, my doctor is currently in India! I have no idea if the form got lost or what. Anyone been through this before? What should I do next?

Ugh, insurance companies are the worst! I had a similar issue last year. Have you tried calling them directly to ask about the form? Sometimes they can resend it or give you a copy to forward to your doctor.

•I've been calling them everyday for the past week, but I keep getting different answers. One rep says they sent it, another says they didn't. It's so frustrating! 😤

•Classic insurance runaround. Sounds like you're in for a wild ride, OP. Hang in there!

•Yikes, that sucks. Maybe try asking for a supervisor? Sometimes they have more authority to actually get things done.

I work in healthcare, and this happens more often than you'd think. Here's what I suggest: 1. Contact your doctor's office and ask if they have a colleague covering while your doctor is away. 2. Request that the insurance company send the form to both your doctor's email AND the office's general email. 3. If possible, get a copy of the form yourself and fill out as much as you can before sending it to your doctor. 4. Keep a log of every call you make, including names and dates. 5. Consider reaching out to your HR department if this is through your employer. Hope this helps!

Have you considered using a disability advocate? They can sometimes help navigate these tricky situations and deal with the insurance company on your behalf.

•I hadn't thought of that. Do you know how I would go about finding one?

•You can usually find them through local legal aid societies or by searching for 'disability advocates' in your area. Some law firms specialize in this too.

•Just be careful with advocates, some of them can be pretty expensive. Make sure you know what you're getting into before signing anything!

I found a method to get someone on the phone when dealing with insurance companies. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

•Sounds interesting, but $20 just to talk to someone? That's kinda steep, isn't it?

•I thought so too at first, but when you consider how much time and frustration it saves, it's worth it. I spent hours on hold before finding this.

•Is this legit? Seems too good to be true tbh

•Totally legit. I was skeptical too, but it really did work for me. Saved me a ton of headache.

Have you tried reaching out to your doctor directly? Even if they're in India, they might be able to access their email and help you out. Worth a shot!

This is why I always tell people to get copies of EVERYTHING. Never trust insurance companies or doctors offices to handle your paperwork properly. Learn from this for next time, OP!

idk if this helps, but when i had issues with my disability claim, i found out my state has an insurance commissioner's office. they have a complaint process that can sometimes light a fire under these companies. might be worth looking into for your state!
