I've been on hold for a few hours and now it's past 5pm. is closed. What happens now that I'm still on hold and if I hang up? Do I get a free callback for being on hold after hours?

You also get 10 free callbacks within 48 hours of you paying for the service.

To all those having trouble reaching a human at California Unemployment. I just ran across this video that gave me a shortcut to reach a human. Hope it helps! https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

If you're still on hold after 8PM, you'll likely get disconnected since that's when closes. Unfortunately, there's no automatic callback system for being on hold after hours - you'll need to call back the next business day. I'd recommend trying to call first thing in the morning around 8AM when they open, as the lines tend to be less busy then. Some people have had luck using the shortcuts others have shared in this thread to get through faster.

ā¢That's really helpful advice, Katherine! I had no idea they would just disconnect you at 8PM. Calling right at 8AM sounds like a smart strategy. I'll definitely try that tomorrow morning and check out those shortcut videos people mentioned too. Thanks for the tip!

I've been in the same situation before! From my experience, if you're still on hold after 8PM, they will disconnect you automatically when their system shuts down for the day. There's no callback system unfortunately. My advice is to hang up now and try calling tomorrow right at 8AM - set multiple alarms! The first 30 minutes when they open tends to be your best shot at getting through. Also, definitely check out those shortcut videos Tom shared - they can really help you navigate their phone system faster. Good luck!

ā¢Thanks Romeo! That's exactly what I was worried about - getting disconnected after waiting so long. I really appreciate everyone's advice about calling right at 8AM. I'll definitely set those alarms and try the shortcut methods too. This community is so helpful for navigating the maze! Hopefully tomorrow will be the day I finally get through.

I feel your frustration! I was in this exact same situation last month - waited 4+ hours only to get disconnected right at closing time. As others mentioned, they do close at 8PM and will automatically disconnect you. Since you've already invested so much time today, I'd recommend hanging up and trying the early morning strategy. I finally got through by calling at exactly 8:00 AM and using one of those shortcut methods - it only took 45 minutes instead of hours! Also, make sure you have all your documents ready before calling so you don't waste any time once you get connected. Hang in there, you'll get through eventually!
