How to upload ID and W-2 for EDD Money Network card verification?
I finally got approved for unemployment benefits after waiting 6 weeks, but now there's ANOTHER hurdle. I got an email saying I need to upload my ID and W-2 form before they'll send me the Money Network debit card. Problem is, I can't figure out WHERE to upload these documents! I've looked all over my UI Online account and don't see any upload option specifically for the debit card verification. Is this through UI Online or do I need to go through Money Network's website? Or is it some third verification system? I'm so confused and really need these benefits to start coming through ASAP. If anyone knows exactly where I'm supposed to upload these documents, I'd really appreciate it!

You don't actually upload those documents to get your Money Network card. The card gets sent automatically once your claim is approved and your first payment is processed. What you're probably seeing is a request to verify your identity through ID.me, which is a separate step required BEFORE your claim can be fully processed. Log into UI Online, look for the 'Upload Documents' section (usually under 'More Services'), and there should be instructions for identity verification there. If you've already been approved, you shouldn't need additional verification for the card itself - it should just be mailed to you automatically.

•That's really confusing then... my claim status says 'approved' but I got this email saying I need to verify my identity before they'll issue the card. Maybe it's a phishing scam? The email looked official though with all the EDD logos.

wait are u SURE the email is actually FROM edd?? sounds fishy to me. edd never asked me to upload stuff specifically for the money network card. once my payments were approved the card just showed up like 7-10 days later

•This!! Be careful of scam emails. EDD will never email you asking for documents like that. All document uploads happen WITHIN UI Online under Document Upload section. The Money Network card is sent automatically once payments are approved.

That email is 100% a scam. Here's exactly how it works with the Money Network cards: 1. You verify your identity through ID.me during the initial claim process 2. Your claim gets approved after eligibility review 3. Your first payment gets processed 4. Money Network automatically mails the debit card to your address on file There is NO secondary verification process specifically for the debit card. Money Network operates as EDD's payment processor - they don't have their own verification system. Never provide your personal documents through email links or to third-party websites claiming to be associated with EDD. If you've already been approved, just wait for the card to arrive, usually takes 7-10 business days after your first payment is processed. You can check if payments have been issued in the Payment History section of UI Online.

•Thank you! I'm going to report the email as phishing then. The email had me worried because I REALLY need that card to arrive. Good to know that it's automatic and I just need to wait. I'll double check my Payment History section to see if anything has been issued yet.

When I was going through this process last year, I kept getting the run-around trying to find out when my card would arrive. After calling EDD for THREE DAYS straight and never getting through, I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me connected to an EDD rep in about 25 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The rep confirmed exactly what others are saying - Money Network cards are mailed automatically after your first payment is processed. They also told me I could check the status of my card by calling the Money Network customer service line directly at 1-866-692-9374.

I got a similar email last month! DONT CLICK ANY LINKS!! It's definitely a phishing scam trying to steal your personal info. Scammers know people are desperate for their benefits and take advantage. I reported it to EDD fraud department at fraud@edd.ca.gov and also forwarded it to phishing@edd.ca.gov

•Just forwarded it to both those email addresses! Thanks for the tip. I can't believe scammers are targeting people who are already struggling financially. That's so low.

IMPORTANT: If you clicked any links in that email or entered any personal information, you need to immediately: 1. Change your UI Online password 2. Change the password for your email account 3. Contact your bank and put a fraud alert on your accounts 4. Consider placing a credit freeze with the major credit bureaus Scammers can do a lot of damage with your personal information, especially when they have things like your SSN and ID documents. Don't take any chances!

•Thankfully I didn't click any links or upload anything yet! I was confused about where to go, which is why I posted here first. Really dodged a bullet thanks to everyone here.

Just to give you a realistic timeline: once your first payment is processed, expect about 7-10 business days for the Money Network card to arrive. When it comes, you'll need to activate it by calling the number on the sticker. Make sure to set up your account on moneynetwork.com to manage your funds and set up direct deposit if you prefer that over using the card. And in the future, remember that EDD will only communicate with you through your UI Online inbox or via regular mail. They don't typically send emails asking for document uploads - all of that happens within the UI Online portal itself.

•This is super helpful! I'll keep an eye on my mailbox. Does the card come in a special envelope or something ordinary that could be mistaken for junk mail? I don't want to accidentally throw it away.

it comes in a plain white envelope with a return address from Money Network in south dakota i think. looks kinda like junk mail tbh so watch out for it

Just wanted to add that if you're still worried about the legitimacy of any EDD communications, you can always log into UI Online directly (by typing the URL yourself, not clicking links) and check your inbox there. That's the official way EDD communicates important updates about your claim. Also, if you need to verify what stage your payments are at, look for the "Payment History" section - it will show you if any payments have been issued, which means your card should be on the way. Stay vigilant about these scams - they're unfortunately very common right now with so many people filing claims.

•This is really good advice! I'm new to all this unemployment stuff and it's honestly overwhelming trying to figure out what's legitimate and what's not. I've been hearing so many horror stories about people getting scammed out of their benefits. It's reassuring to know that I can always double-check things by going directly to UI Online. I'll definitely bookmark the official site and make sure I'm always typing the URL myself rather than clicking any links in emails. Thanks for looking out for newcomers like me!
