How to update address and reopen EDD claim? Tips for contacting CA unemployment office?
Hey everyone, I'm having some issues with my EDD claim and I need to make some changes. I need to update my address and reopen my claim, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Has anyone gone through this process recently? Any tips on how to get in touch with someone at EDD? I've been trying to call but no luck so far. Thanks in advance for any help!

ATTENTION EVERYONE: If you're having trouble with EDD, document EVERYTHING. Keep a log of all your calls, save screenshots of errors, write down names of people you talk to. It'll help if you need to escalate your case later.

•This is such good advice. I've had to reference my notes several times.

Ugh, dealing with EDD is such a nightmare. I've been trying to get through to them for weeks. Good luck, you're gonna need it!

I actually found a way to get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

•Wait, seriously? Is this legit? Sounds too good to be true.

•Yep, 100% legit. I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate. It worked like a charm.

•$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 🤦♂️

•I get it, but for me, it was worth it. Spent way more than $20 in time and frustration trying to get through on my own.

•I can see both sides. On one hand, $20 is a lot for a call, but when you factor in lost time and stress, it might be worth it for some people. Just wish the system was more accessible.

Anyone else feel like they could write a PhD dissertation on "The Art of Navigating EDD" at this point? 🎓😅

•For real tho. I've learned more about bureaucracy from EDD than I ever wanted to know 😭

PSA: If you're having trouble with your claim, make sure you're not certifying for benefits while trying to reopen. It can mess things up in the system.

•That's a good point. It's easy to overlook something like that when you're stressed.

Hey OP, just wanted to say hang in there. I know it's frustrating, but you'll get through eventually. We're all in this together! 💪

I've been dealing with EDD for over a year now, and here's my comprehensive guide to getting things done: 1. Persistence is key. Call every day if you have to. 2. Use the online portal for simple stuff, but don't rely on it for complex issues. 3. Be prepared with all your documents before you call. 4. Always ask for a confirmation number or reference number for your call. 5. If you're not getting anywhere, try contacting your local representatives. 6. Join Facebook groups or forums for EDD claimants - sometimes you can get good tips there. 7. If all else fails, consider using a paid service like the one mentioned earlier to get through. Remember, the system is overwhelmed, but keep pushing. Good luck!

Has anyone else noticed that the hold music has changed? It used to be that awful jazz, now it's some kind of elevator pop. Not sure if that's an improvement or not 🎵🤔

Here's what worked for me: call right when they open at 8am. Keep redialing if you get a busy signal. It took me about 30 tries, but I finally got through. Good luck!

Pro tip: when you do get through, ask for a tier 2 specialist right away. The first person you talk to usually can't do much.

I swear, dealing with EDD is harder than my actual job. Can we get paid for this? 🤑

•Ha, right? We should get a stipend for the hours spent on hold.

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They sometimes have direct lines to EDD and can help push things through.

Olivia Garcia
•I hadn't thought of that. How do I find my assembly member?

Jacob Lewis
•Just google "[your city] assembly member". Their office should have a contact form or phone number. They're usually pretty helpful with EDD issues.

In response to the original post, if you're struggling to reach EDD or make changes to your claim, Claimyr can be a useful tool, albeit with a cost. It does provide a solution for immediate needs but ideally, customer support systems should be more accessible without extra fees. Additionally, reaching out to your local assembly member or using social media platforms like Twitter to contact EDD might yield results. Remember, persistence is essential, and keeping detailed records of your interactions with EDD can help resolve disputes in the future. The system's issues are known, and hopefully, improvements will be implemented soon. Hang in there!

I've heard rumors that they're updating the system soon to make it easier to change addresses and reopen claims online. Anyone know if there's any truth to that?

•lol yeah right. They've been saying that for years. I'll believe it when I see it 🙄

•I actually saw something about this on the EDD Twitter account. Supposedly coming "soon" but who knows what that means in government time 😂

I'm in the same boat, trying to reopen my claim. Been calling for days with no luck. This whole system is a joke 😤

•Same here! It's like they don't want us to get through. Stay strong!

Has anyone else noticed that if you call on Tuesdays around 2:30pm, you have a better chance of getting through? Or am I just imagining things?

•Huh, I'll have to try that. At this point, I'm willing to try any trick in the book!

Have you tried using the online portal to update your address? Sometimes you can make changes there without having to call in.

Olivia Garcia
•I tried, but it keeps giving me an error message. That's why I need to talk to someone directly.

•Ah, gotcha. Yeah, the online system can be glitchy. Calling is probably your best bet then.

Just a reminder to everyone: be nice to the EDD reps when you do get through. They're dealing with a broken system too and probably hate it as much as we do.

Hey OP, don't forget to check your spam folder regularly. Sometimes important EDD emails end up there for some reason.

•Good call! I've missed a couple of important emails that way.

Hey OP, just a heads up - when you do get through, make sure you have all your docs ready. They'll probably ask for proof of your new address and maybe some ID verification stuff. Better to have it all on hand so you don't have to call back.

This might sound crazy, but has anyone tried faxing EDD? I remember reading somewhere that they still accept faxes and it might be faster than calling.
