How to get EDD award letter for Covered California - can't find it in UI Online
Hey everyone, I'm trying to help my sister with her Covered California application. She needs a copy of her EDD award letter showing her unemployment benefits, but we can't figure out where to find it in her UI Online account. We've looked through all the tabs and sections but don't see anything labeled as an "award letter." Does anyone know if this document is available in the online portal or if she has to request it some other way? Her Covered CA deadline is coming up next week and we're getting nervous. Thanks in advance for any help!

•Ugh seriously? So there's no way to download a digital copy? Her deadline is in 7 days 😰

The document you're looking for is actually called a "Notice of Unemployment Insurance Award" (DE 429Z). It's not available for download in UI Online. Your sister will need to contact EDD to request it be mailed to her. Unfortunately, that usually takes 7-10 business days after the request is processed.

•Thank you for the exact name of the document! That helps a lot. But I'm worried about the timeline... do you know if Covered California will accept any other proof of unemployment in the meantime?

As someone who deals with Covered California applications regularly, they will usually accept a screenshot of the payment history from UI Online as temporary proof. Have your sister log in, go to "Payment History" and take screenshots showing the benefit amounts. Include her name/address from the account page. Submit those with a note explaining the official award letter is coming. They give you 30 days to provide final documentation after initial submission.

•That's SUCH a relief to hear! We'll definitely try that approach. Thank you so much for this insight!

Something nobody mentioned yet - your sister should check her email and mail. When she first applied and was approved for unemployment, EDD should have sent her the Notice of Unemployment Insurance Award letter. My husband just went through this. It was both emailed AND mailed when his claim was first approved. Worth checking before going through the hassle of requesting a new one!

•That's a good point! I'll have her check her emails from when she first applied. She's had some mail issues at her apartment complex so it's possible the original got lost.

I HAD THIS EXACT PROBLEM!!! Spent 3 WEEKS trying to get through to EDD for my Covered CA application!!! The online system is USELESS for this. EDD is IMPOSSIBLE to reach by phone - kept getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and then DISCONNECT!! Finally used Claimyr.com to get through - totally worth it. They connect you to an EDD rep who can send the award letter. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km After I got through, the rep sent the award letter that same day via email! Saved my Covered CA application!

•It's not sketchy - they just connect you past the busy signals. Totally worth it when you're on a deadline like OP's sister. The rep emailed me the award letter PDF the same day.

This is a common issue with Covered California documentation requirements. While everyone's right that the official way is to request the Notice of UI Award (DE 429Z) from EDD, there's another option that helped me. If your sister has already received benefits, she can log into UI Online, go to History > Transactions and print that page. It shows all payment details including claim amounts. My Covered CA caseworker accepted this as proof while waiting for the official letter. But make sure she follows up with the caseworker directly to confirm this will work for her specific situation.

•This is super helpful! I'll have her try this approach too. She does have a specific caseworker, so we'll confirm with them first. Thanks for the detailed steps on where to find the transaction history!

UPDATE: We got it resolved! First, my sister tried the transaction history approach, but her Covered CA rep said they really needed the official award letter. We tried calling EDD multiple times with no luck, then used Claimyr as someone suggested here. Got through to a rep in about 15 minutes who was super helpful. The rep emailed her the award letter as a PDF the same day. Thanks everyone for your help! For anyone with this same issue in the future, the transaction history is good temporary proof, but they ultimately needed the official Notice of UI Award letter.

•Thanks for updating us! Really helpful to know they were able to email the document rather than only sending by mail. That's going to help a lot of other people in similar situations with tight deadlines.

•Glad it worked out! Yeah, most people don't know EDD can email certain documents when you explain it's urgent. Saved me too!
