How to find PUA application date and approval status in EDD portal
My mother-in-law doesn't speak English well and I'm trying to help her figure out some old unemployment stuff from the pandemic. We need to check when she applied for PUA and when she was approved. I've looked through her UI Online account but I'm confused about where this information would be stored. Also, is there a way to tell if EDD automatically switched her from regular UI to PUA? She thinks this happened but isn't sure. The claim history only shows payment dates but not the original application or approval dates for PUA specifically. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You can find this information in her UI Online account under 'Claim History' tab. Once there, scroll down to the beginning of her pandemic claims (likely March-May 2020 timeframe). Look for the first payment that shows 'PUA' in the program type column. The week ending date of that payment is usually within 1-2 weeks of approval. Regarding automatic transfers from regular UI to PUA - yes, this did happen for many people. If her claim history shows regular UI payments that suddenly switch to PUA payments without a new application date, then EDD likely did the transfer automatically. You should also check her inbox messages from that time period - EDD would have sent a notification when they transferred her.

•Thank you! I'll check her Claim History more carefully. Do you know if there's a way to see the actual application date? We're trying to figure out if she applied before or after a specific date for some tax paperwork.

my cousin had same problem!!! the date is NOT in claim history its in the NOTICES section. look for something called "notice of PUA award" or something like that. it has all dates on it. EDD automatically put lots of ppl on PUA back then

•Oh that's really helpful! I'll look in the Notices section too. I didn't think to check there.

If you need this information for legal purposes, I would strongly recommend requesting your mother-in-law's complete claim record from EDD. Online accounts don't always show the full history, especially for pandemic programs that have since ended. To get this record: 1. Call EDD and request a complete claim record including application dates 2. Or submit a written request for records (takes longer) The automatic transfers from UI to PUA were common during April-May 2020 when EDD was implementing the pandemic programs. They typically sent notices via mail rather than just online messages, so check if she still has any old mail from EDD.

•Thank you for this detailed advice. We've been looking for old mail but haven't found anything. I'll try calling EDD to request the records. The UI Online account is definitely missing some information.

GOOD LUCK getting through to EDD!!! I've been trying for WEEKS to get someone on the phone about my overpayment issue!!! They NEVER answer and when they do they just transfer you until you get disconnected!!! The whole system is designed to FRUSTRATE people until they give up!!!

•I had the same issue trying to reach EDD for weeks. Then I found this service called Claimyr that got me through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes after I'd been trying for days on my own. They basically call EDD repeatedly for you until they get through, then connect you. Saved me so much frustration! Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Definitely worth it when you absolutely need to speak with someone at EDD and can't waste days redialing.

When I needed my PUA info I just went to local EDD office and they printed everything for me. Appointment needed tho.

•That's a good idea. I didn't realize you could get records in person. I'll see if we can make an appointment.

Im not sure about finding exact PUA application date but for my claim I remember there was a award letter in my inbox messages that showed when I was approved. Have you tried downloading all her inbox messages? Might be buried in there somewhere.

•I haven't downloaded all the messages yet - that's a good suggestion. Hopefully the award letter is still there. Thank you!

One more thing to check - look at the 'Determination' section in her UI Online account. Sometimes there's an entry there showing when they determined she was eligible for PUA instead of regular UI. The date on that determination would be very close to when she was approved for PUA. Also, PUA was only available from March 29, 2020 through September 4, 2021, so that narrows down the timeframe. If she was auto-transferred, it likely happened in April or May 2020 when they were implementing the program.

•This is incredibly helpful! I didn't know about the Determination section. And the date range helps narrow things down. We'll check there tomorrow when she comes over. Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this.
