How long after EDD receives application to get approval decision?
I submitted my EDD unemployment application last Friday and I'm already stressing about how long it'll take to find out if I'm approved. This waiting is making me super anxious because my savings are almost gone after being laid off from the construction company. Has anyone filed recently who can tell me approximately how long I should expect to wait before they make a decision? The EDD website just says processing times vary. Is there anything specific I should be watching for in my UI Online account that indicates progress? Thanks in advance for any help.

•Thanks for the info. Did you get any kind of notification when they made a decision, or did you just have to keep checking your account?

The standard processing time is typically 10-14 days, but it can definitely vary. Make sure you complete your bi-weekly certifications even while waiting for the initial determination. You should receive both an email and a letter in the mail when your claim is processed. The most important thing to watch for in your UI Online account is any request for an eligibility interview or identity verification - these will show up under 'Notifications' and can significantly delay your claim if not addressed promptly.

•This isn't always true. My cousin waited 6 weeks with no interviews or anything. Sometimes EDD is just slow!

•You're right that there can be exceptions, especially during high-volume periods. I was speaking from the typical experience, but individual cases definitely vary.

I filed in January and it was a NIGHTMARE!!! My application sat there for 4 weeks with no updates. Then I got a random message saying they needed to verify my identity again even though I already did the ID.me verification. Then another 2 weeks of waiting! No explanation, nothing. The system is BROKEN!! Don't be surprised if you're waiting over a month to see a single dollar.

•Oh no, that sounds terrible! I really can't afford to wait that long. Did you try calling them to speed things up?

•I tried calling EVERY DAY for two weeks straight. Either couldn't get through at all or got disconnected after waiting on hold for an hour. The whole system is designed to make you give up!!!

I've helped several people navigate the EDD system recently, and here's what you need to know: 1. Initial applications typically process in 10-21 days, but can take longer if there are any issues with your work history or ID verification. 2. You should receive an email when your claim is processed, followed by a letter in the mail with your award amount. 3. If your application needs further review, you'll see a notification in UI Online requesting additional information or scheduling an eligibility interview. 4. Make sure you certify for benefits every two weeks even while waiting for approval - this is absolutely critical. 5. If it's been more than 3 weeks with no update, you should try to contact EDD directly.

•Thank you so much for this detailed info! If I do need to contact them after 3 weeks, do you have any tips for actually getting through? I've heard the phone lines are impossible.

When I was stuck in application limbo for nearly a month, I tried calling EDD dozens of times with no luck. Then I discovered this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me actually get through to a real EDD representative in about 20 minutes. They have this system that navigates the phone tree and holds your place in line. I was skeptical but watched their demo video (https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km) and decided to try it. The rep I talked to was able to see exactly what was holding up my claim and resolved it on the spot. Might be worth checking out if you end up stuck in the waiting game too long.

•It worked for me in February. I'm not saying it's magic, but it definitely gets you past the endless busy signals and disconnects. The EDD rep still has to be able to help with your specific issue once you're connected.

•That's so frustrating that there's such inconsistency. I guess I'll just have to wait and see which category I fall into.

One important thing to verify: Did you receive a confirmation email after submitting your application? If not, there's a chance your application wasn't actually received properly. Also, check your UI Online account to see if there's a claim established - even if it's pending, you should see some indication that they've received your application. If you don't see anything at all in your account, you might need to reapply.

•Yes, I did get a confirmation email and I can see my claim in UI Online with a status of 'Pending' - so at least I know they received it. I'll keep monitoring for any changes or notifications.

•Perfect. That means your application is in their system and being processed. Make sure to complete your bi-weekly certifications as soon as they become available (usually every two weeks on Sunday). Even though you're waiting for the initial determination, having your certifications ready will prevent further delays once approved.

My claim took exactly 17 days from application to approval back in January. Be patient but definitely call if it goes past 3 weeks with no updates.
