EDD website crashes during certification - can't complete claim filing

So frustrating! I've been trying to file my unemployment claim since Tuesday and the EDD website keeps crashing when I get to the second page of the application. It loads fine at first, I enter all my personal info on page 1, click 'Next' and BOOM - error message or blank screen. I've tried using Chrome, Firefox, and even Edge. Also switched from my home wifi to phone hotspot thinking it was my internet, but same problem! Anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions on how to get through the application process? I'm starting to panic because I need to get this claim filed before rent is due next week.

ya its been doing that to me 2. try doing it late at night like 2am when less ppl are on the site. worked for me

Thanks, I'll try the middle-of-the-night approach tonight. Did you have any other technical issues after getting past that page?

I encountered the same issue last month. The EDD website has been having serious technical problems since they upgraded their system in January. Here are some things that worked for me: 1. Clear your browser cache and cookies completely 2. Try using incognito/private browsing mode 3. Don't use autofill for any fields 4. Take screenshots of each page before clicking 'Next' so you don't lose your info 5. If all else fails, try calling EDD directly The phone route is frustrating because of the wait times, but sometimes it's the only way to get your claim filed if the website keeps crashing.

Calling EDD is IMPOSSIBLE!! I tried for 3 WEEKS straight last month and never got through once. Their phone system is even worse than their website!!

You're right that getting through on the phone can be incredibly difficult. That's why I recommend trying the website fixes first. But if those don't work, you might want to try Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a service that helps you get through to an EDD representative much faster. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. I was skeptical at first but it saved me hours of frustration when I had website issues.

This is a known issue with the EDD website when they're experiencing high traffic volume. In addition to the excellent suggestions already provided, I'd recommend: - Try filing your claim between 10pm-6am when traffic is lowest - Make sure you're using a computer, not a mobile device (even though they claim it works on mobile) - Have all your employment information ready before starting - If you're using any browser extensions or ad blockers, disable them temporarily If you've already attempted multiple times and keep encountering crashes, document your attempts (screenshots of error messages, dates/times). This documentation could be important if your claim ends up being delayed and you need to request backdating.

Thank you for these detailed suggestions! I've been using my laptop but haven't thought about disabling extensions. I do have quite a few running. Will try that along with the late night timing. I've been taking screenshots of the errors so that's good to know it might help with backdating if needed.

I had the EXACT same issue and it turned out to be my WiFi!!! Even tho u said u tried different internet, try going to a totally different location like a library or coffee shop. My home network was somehow blocking part of the EDD site even tho it was loading the first page. Also check if ur running a VPN, that can mess it up too. Once I used the library wifi everything worked fine!

That's interesting about the VPN - I do have one running! I didn't think to check that. Will definitely try turning it off or using a public wifi spot tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!

Have you checked if your browser is up to date? Sometimes outdated browsers don't work properly with government sites. Also make sure you're not using any auto-fill features as those can cause conflicts with the EDD site's security features. I've been on unemployment twice in the past three years and both times had technical issues that were resolved by updating my browser and disabling browser extensions. Also worth noting - if you can't get it working online, you can request a paper application by mail, though obviously that will take longer to process.

paper applications take FOREVER now don't do that unless ur super desperate. my neighbor did that in feb and didn't get their claim approved until mid april. website is still faster even with all the problems

UPDATE: You all are amazing! I tried a combination of suggestions - disabled my VPN, cleared all cookies, turned off browser extensions, and waited until 1am to try again. It finally worked! Got all the way through the application process and received my confirmation number. Now fingers crossed the claim gets processed quickly. Thanks to everyone for the help!
