EDD sent workers comp form for non-work illness (stroke on vacation) - How to clarify without messing up claim?
Hey everyone, I need some advice. I got an email saying I need to fill out a workers comp form, but my illness isn't work-related at all. I had a stroke while on vacation in another country. How do I explain this to EDD without messing up my claim? Anyone dealt with something similar?

Oof, that's a tough situation. Here's what I'd do: • Gather all your vacation docs (flight tickets, hotel receipts, etc.) • Call EDD and explain the situation clearly • Emphasize that your illness occurred during personal time, not work • Ask if there's a specific form for non-work-related illnesses • Follow up with an email summarizing the call Good luck! The system can be a real pain sometimes.

This is solid advice. I had a similar issue last year and documentation was key. Make sure to keep copies of EVERYTHING.

Yea but good luck actually getting through to EDD on the phone 🙄 I've been trying for weeks!

True, getting through can be a nightmare. I usually try calling right when they open or just before closing. Sometimes works better.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

Yeah, it actually does. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken 😤

I get it, but think about how much your time is worth. For me, not spending hours on hold was totally worth it.

Have you tried explaining this in writing? Sometimes its easier to get your point across in an email or letter where you can lay out all the details clearly.

That's a good idea. Do you know if there's a specific email address I should use for this kind of situation?

I don't know a specific email, but check their website. There might be a contact form for special circumstances. Good luck!

Not exactly the same, but I had an injury while freelancing and it was a whole ordeal to explain it wasn't a regular job. The key is persistence. Don't give up!

Freelancing problems, I feel you. The system really isn't set up for how people actually work these days.

Plot twist: claim your vacation was actually a work retreat. Problem solved! 😂 Jk don't do that. But seriously, hope you get it sorted out OP.
