EDD sent workers comp form for non-work illness during vacation. How to fix?

I got an email saying I need to fill out a workers comp form, but my illness happened while I was on vacation in another country. It wasn't work-related at all. The email says my illness is work-related and I have to submit the form by a certain date. How do I clear this up with them? Has anyone else dealt with this kind of mix-up before?

I found a way to solve workers comp form mixup, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fSGYRPM9A4

Ugh, bureaucracy at its finest 🙄 I had a similar issue last year. You need to contact them ASAP and explain the situation. Be prepared to provide proof of your travel dates and maybe even a doctor's note from where you were treated.

This. Documentation is key. Make sure you have everything in writing too.

Thanks for the advice! I'll start gathering everything now. Do you think an email is enough or should I call them?

Definitely call. Emails can get lost in the shuffle. But follow up with an email after the call to have a paper trail.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Call them immediately. Don't wait. 2. Explain clearly that your illness occurred during personal travel, not work. 3. Offer to provide travel documents (flight tickets, passport stamps) as proof. 4. Ask them to send you a corrected form or written confirmation that you don't need to file for workers comp. 5. Follow up with an email summarizing your call. 6. Keep all documentation related to this issue. If they give you any trouble, consider reaching out to your HR department for support. They might be able to help clarify things with the workers comp people. Good luck!

This is solid advice. I work in HR and we often have to intervene in these situations.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds sketchy. Is it legit?

Totally legit. I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of hold time.

How long did it take to get through?

For me, about 45 minutes. But I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music the whole time.

This happened to my cousin last year. It was a nightmare to fix. Took him like 3 months to get it all sorted out. Start early and be persistent!

Oh no, that sounds awful. Did he eventually get it resolved?

Yeah, but he had to escalate it to a supervisor. Don't be afraid to ask for a manager if you're not getting anywhere.

Am I the only one who thinks its ridiculous that we have to jump through all these hoops just to correct their mistake? The system is broken af 😤

Quick question - did you inform your employer about your illness when you returned from vacation? Sometimes miscommunication between you, your employer, and the workers comp people can cause these mix-ups.

Yes, I did let my boss know. But maybe something got lost in translation along the way. I'll check with HR too.

Whatever you do, don't ignore the email or miss the deadline. Even tho its not applicable to you, missing deadlines can cause bigger headaches down the road. Trust me, been there done that 😩
