Denied SDI due to missed deadline - received letter 2 days before due date while working out of state. Help!

I applied for disability insurance back in May and was cleared to return to work in mid-July. The problem is, I didn't get the denial letter until I was already working out of state. We're doing 10-12 hour days, so I couldn't find time to call and address it. They wanted some info by a certain date, but I only got the letter two days before that deadline. Anyone else deal with something like this? Any advice on how to handle it?

I found a way to solve disability claim response delays, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzXwpQOS52c

Ugh, that sucks. The timing of these things is always so frustrating. Have you tried explaining your situation to them? Sometimes they can be understanding if you reach out and explain why you couldn't respond in time.

I haven't had a chance to reach out yet. Been working crazy hours and its hard to find time during their office hours. Hoping to catch a break soon and give them a call.

Good luck with that. In my experience, they're about as understanding as a brick wall. 🧱

Don't listen to the negative nancy ⬆️ It's always worth a shot! Just be polite and explain your situation clearly.

I've been in a similar boat. The key is to document EVERYTHING. Write down dates, times, who you talked to. If you can prove you received the letter late, that might help your case.

This is why the system is broken. They expect people to drop everything and respond immediately, but real life doesn't work that way. We need serious reform in how these agencies operate.

Preach! 🙌 The whole system seems designed to make people give up.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yep, totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

How long did it take for them to get through?

For me, it took about 2 hours. But I was able to do other stuff instead of being stuck listening to hold music.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Write a formal appeal letter explaining your situation. Be detailed about the dates you received the letter and why you couldn't respond in time. 2. Gather any evidence you have - postmarked envelope from the denial letter, work schedule showing your long hours, etc. 3. If possible, get a letter from your employer confirming your out-of-state work and hours. 4. Submit everything together as soon as possible. Even though you're past the deadline, many agencies have provisions for 'good cause' delays. 5. Follow up with phone calls. Be persistent but polite. 6. If all else fails, contact your local state representative or senator. They often have staff who can help navigate these issues. Remember, the key is to act quickly now and provide as much documentation as possible. Good luck!

This is why I always tell people to sign up for informed delivery from USPS. At least then you know what mail is coming even if you're not there to receive it.
