EDD payment schedule confusion - if paid Tuesday when's my next deposit?
OK so I'm super confused about the EDD payment schedule... I just got my first unemployment payment deposited on Tuesday this week (yay finally!) but now I'm wondering when exactly to expect the next one? I certified Sunday for both weeks since it was my first time. I know we certify every 2 weeks, but does that mean my next payment is in 2 weeks from when I certified or 2 weeks from when I actually got paid? Also does everyone get paid on the same day or does it vary? If I certify on time do I always get paid on Tuesdays? Tried looking on the EDD website but couldn't find a clear answer about their payment schedule.

It's based on your certification date, not your payment date. You'll certify every two weeks on Sunday (the day your certification becomes available). If you certify early Sunday morning, the payment typically processes within 24-48 hours and deposits 1-2 days after that. So yes, if you certify this Sunday by like 8am, you'll probably get paid Tuesday or Wednesday. I've been using Claimyr (claimyr.com) whenever I have payment issues or questions - they help you get through to an EDD rep quickly instead of calling hundreds of times. Their video shows exactly how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - saved me so much frustration when my payments were stuck pending.

•Ohhhh that makes more sense! So I'll certify every other Sunday and then get paid a few days later. My next certification should be available in about 10 days then I guess? Also thanks for the Claimyr info - bookmarking that in case I run into issues!

•This is correct. The exact deposit day can vary based on your bank's processing time. If you're using the EDD Money Network debit card, it might be slightly faster than direct deposit to some banks. The important thing is establishing your regular certification schedule, which is always every two weeks from your initial certification date.

THEY NEVER TELL U THIS STUFF CLEARLY!!!! I swear EDD makes everything confusing on purpose. I went 3 weeks thinking I was supposed to certify every week and couldn't figure out why the system wouldn't let me. No one answers phones and the website is useless!!!

Your claim is on a specific schedule that doesn't change. EDD assigns everyone to either a Group 1 or Group 2 certification schedule. You'll always certify every two weeks on Sunday, and your certification weeks are fixed by your assigned group. The payment typically processes overnight if you certify early on Sunday, and depending on your payment method (Money Network card vs direct deposit) and your bank, it will deposit 1-3 business days later. To know exactly when your next certification is available, log into UI Online and look at your homepage - it will show your next certification date clearly at the top of the dashboard.

•Adding to this - if you miss your certification window (which is two weeks), you can still certify late but it might delay your payment. The certification window opens at midnight on Sunday and you have about 14 days to complete it before it becomes "too late to certify" and requires you to contact EDD to reopen that period.

When I first started getting unemployment, I was SUPER confused too. My claim was approved on a Wednesday but I couldn't certify until the following Sunday. Then I got paid on Tuesday. Then I had to wait two whole weeks to certify again. So now my schedule is certify every other Sunday, get paid every other Tuesday or Wednesday depending on bank processing. Does that help?

•Yes that helps a lot! So similar to my situation. It's just confusing at first trying to figure out all the timing. I'll mark my calendar for every other Sunday for certification day.

guys i have a somewhat related question - if my benefit year ends in July, do I still certify the same way until then? My work is seasonal so I might go back before that date anyway

•Yes, you continue certifying on your regular schedule until either your benefit year ends or you exhaust your claim balance (whichever comes first). If you return to work, you simply report your earnings when certifying, and if you earn too much, you won't receive benefits for those weeks but your claim stays active until the benefit year ends. Remember to always report accurate earnings during certification.

Here's a simple way to remember the payment schedule: 1. Your certification date is always every other Sunday 2. Payment processing typically starts that Sunday night/Monday morning 3. Payment usually appears 1-3 business days after processing (so Tuesday-Thursday) The exact deposit day may vary by 1-2 days depending on your bank, but the certification schedule is fixed. You can also set up email or text alerts in your UI Online account to notify you when it's time to certify.
