EDD payment delay after UI-to-SDI transition - need contact for local rep
I'm having an issue with my benefits after transitioning from regular unemployment to disability. There seems to be some kind of overlap period that's causing problems with my payments. I called UI department last week and the representative told me everything was fixed in the system, but I still haven't received my payment that was supposed to hit my account two days ago. The payment status hasn't updated and I've gotten zero communication about what's happening. I'm in Lakeside (San Diego area) and wondering if anyone knows which local government office or representative I should contact to get this resolved? I've tried the regular EDD number but can't get through to an actual person. Is there a specific email address or extension for the San Diego region that might help? Bills are piling up and I'm getting really stressed.

•How long did it take to get resolved for you? Did you have to do anything special to get it fixed?

You need to contact both departments separately. The UI department can only fix issues on their side, but they can't directly communicate with the SDI department. For your specific situation in San Diego, you might want to try contacting your State Assembly member - they can sometimes intervene when there are EDD problems that cross departments. For Lakeside, that's probably Assembly District 75. Their office can submit an inquiry on your behalf that usually gets faster attention than calling yourself.

•Thank you! I had no idea the Assembly office could help with this. I'll look up the contact info for District 75 right now.

•+1 for contacting your assembly person. they fixed my claim in 3 days after i spent 2 months getting nowhere with edd directly.

I got stuck in a similar situation when my UI ended and my disability started. Couldn't get through to ANYONE at EDD for weeks! Then I found this service called Claimyr that got me connected to an actual EDD agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending days redialing that stupid phone number. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The agent I finally talked to explained that the systems don't communicate well between UI and SDI, so they had to manually fix the crossover dates in both systems. Apparently it's a really common problem but most people don't know who to ask for specifically.

•Is this a legit service? Seems sketchy that you have to pay someone just to talk to EDD which should be a free government service we already pay taxes for 🤬

•I was skeptical too, but after trying for 3 weeks to get through myself, I was desperate. It worked exactly like they said it would. And the customer service rep I talked to at EDD knew exactly how to fix the problem once I explained it was a UI to SDI transition issue.

For UI to SDI transition issues, you need to speak with a Tier 2 specialist who has access to both systems. When you call, specifically ask for a "cross-program specialist" who deals with UI/SDI overlap cases. Also, if your payment is more than 10 days late, you should file a formal inquiry through your UI Online account - click on "Contact EDD" and select "Where is my payment?" as the subject. This creates a case that has to be reviewed within 72 hours. In San Diego specifically, you can try the local office at: EDD San Diego Office 3400 Carmel Mountain Road #100 San Diego, CA 92121 They sometimes take walk-ins for urgent payment issues, especially when it involves multiple benefit programs.

•This is incredibly helpful! I've been asking for a supervisor when I call but didn't know to ask for a cross-program specialist specifically. I'll try that approach. And I didn't realize there was a local office that might take walk-ins. Thank you!

anybody else notice that these problems ALWAYS happen at transition points?? i swear EDD is designed to cause maximum stress right when ur already dealing with changing from one program to another...its like the departments dont even talk to each other

•Seriously!!! The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Each EDD department acts like a completely separate agency. I had THREE different contradictory instructions when I went from regular UI to PFL and back to UI again last year. COMPLETE DISASTER!

Update - there's actually a specific form for UI to SDI transitions called the DE 2580U. It's not well known, but if you specifically ask about this form when you call, they'll know you're aware of the proper procedure. Also, make sure your last UI certification didn't overlap with your first SDI claim date. Even a single day of overlap can cause the system to flag both claims for review.

•I think this might be exactly what happened. My UI ended on the 15th and my SDI started on the 15th. The UI rep didn't mention anything about an overlap, but that would explain the issue. I'll ask about the DE 2580U form specifically.

my cousin works for edd (not in san diego tho) and she says the best time to call is tuesday-thursday right when they open at 8am or between 4-5pm. apparently most ppl call mondays and during lunch hours so those are the worst times.

UPDATE: Just wanted to share what finally worked for me. I called at 8:01am this morning and asked specifically for a "cross-program specialist" who deals with UI/SDI transitions. After a 20 minute wait, I got connected to someone who knew exactly what the problem was. Apparently there WAS an overlap because my UI claim ended on the same day my SDI began. The specialist submitted a DE 2580U form (thanks for that tip!) and manually adjusted the dates in the system. My payment should be released within 48 hours! Thanks everyone for the help!
