EDD direct deposit worked! Payment hit account 24hrs after certification
Just switched from Money Network card to direct deposit and I can't believe the difference! Applied for it last month after dealing with that horrible card for 6 months. Certified on Sunday around noon and boom - payment already in my checking account Monday morning at 9:30am. That's literally less than 24 hours! With the Money Network card I was waiting 2-3 days minimum, then another day to transfer to my bank, plus dealing with their glitchy app that kept logging me out. If you haven't switched to direct deposit yet, DO IT NOW. Feels like I've been stuck in the stone age with that prepaid card nonsense. Has anyone else had good experiences with direct deposit vs the card?

•Yes! Go to UI Online, click "Payment Methods" in your account settings. You'll need your bank routing and account number. It took about 2 weeks for mine to activate after I submitted the info.

SAME!! Got my money this morning too! So much better than that awful Money Network system. I was always having issues with the card not working at certain ATMs or getting random holds when I tried to buy groceries. Direct deposit is the way to go.

•I signed up 3 weeks ago but still getting paid on the card. How long did yours take to switch over? My EDD account shows direct deposit as my payment method but the money still gets loaded to the card.

Congrats! I wish my experience was as smooth. I've had direct deposit set up since April and sometimes it works fast like yours, but other times it takes 3-4 days for no apparent reason. Better than the card though!

Just a helpful clarification - the direct deposit option became fully available statewide in January 2025 after a limited rollout in select counties. Some important things to know: 1. Direct deposit processing time is usually 24-48 hours after certification is processed (not just submitted) 2. You can still view payment history in UI Online just like with the card 3. If you need to change bank accounts, it takes 7-10 business days for security reasons 4. There's no limit on the number of times you can switch between payment methods Overall, direct deposit has had a 97% satisfaction rate in EDD surveys compared to 62% for the Money Network card. Definitely a positive change!

•Thanks for all the detailed info! Do you know if there's any way to track when exactly the payment is sent? I noticed with the card they would sometimes show "payment issued" before it actually hit the card.

Anyone else scared to switch? I've heard horror stories about people's payments getting stuck in limbo during the transition. I'm afraid of messing up my claim and having to call EDD to fix it. We all know how THAT goes...

•If ur worried about having to call EDD, use Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in the same boat - direct deposit setup got messed up somehow & I kept getting "pending" status. Used their service to get through to a rep in like 15 minutes instead of calling for days. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km EDD fixed my direct deposit issue right away once I actually got to talk to someone.

I actually just switched to direct deposit last week and my certification from Sunday still shows "paid" but hasn't hit my account yet. Does anyone know if the first deposit sometimes takes longer? I triple-checked my banking info so I know that's correct.

•Yes, the first direct deposit payment typically takes 2-3 business days longer than subsequent payments. This is because EDD performs additional verification on the first transaction to your bank account. If it doesn't appear by Thursday, then you should contact EDD for assistance.

The money network card was TRASH! I had my identity stolen twice because of that stupid thing. And their customer service!! OMG I would rather do my taxes every day for a year than deal with them again.

•Seriously? That's scary. Did you ever get your money back? I'm still using the card but now I'm paranoid...

•If you completed an eligibility interview last week and your payment is still pending, there are a few possible explanations: 1. The interviewer may have requested additional documentation 2. The determination is still being processed (can take 5-7 business days) 3. There might be another issue separate from what was discussed in your interview Log into UI Online and check your inbox for any messages. If nothing there, you should contact EDD for clarification.

Anyone know if we can eventually go back to the Money Network card if direct deposit doesn't work out? My bank sometimes charges fees for incoming transfers and I'm trying to avoid that.

•Yes, you can switch back and forth. I asked about this when I set mine up. Just go to the payment methods section in your UI Online account. They said there's no limit to how many times you can change it.

ok so i just tried to set up direct desposit and it says i need to verify my identity AGAIN?? i already did the id.me thing when i first applied! why do they make everything so complicated 🤬

•This is actually a security feature. Adding or changing direct deposit information is considered a high-security action since it affects where your money goes. The additional verification helps prevent fraud. It should be much simpler than your initial ID.me verification - usually just answering a few questions to confirm your identity rather than uploading documents again.
