EDD Identity Verification Nightmare: Can't Get Through on Phone Lines
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble verifying my identity for my unemployment claim. I can't even get through to tell them anything because the phone lines are always busy. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any tips on how to get in touch with someone at the unemployment office?

Ugh, I feel your pain. I was in the same boat last month. It's like trying to win the lottery just to talk to someone there. Have you tried calling right when they open? That worked for me after like a week of trying.

I've tried that a few times, but no luck so far. How long did you have to wait on hold when you finally got through?

It was brutal, not gonna lie. I think I was on hold for like 2 hours? But at least I finally got to talk to someone. Bring a book or something to keep you busy if you try it!

2 hours? You got lucky! I was on hold for 4 hours last week and then they hung up on me 😭

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me so much time and frustration. Worth every penny imo. They even have a money-back guarantee if it doesn't work.

I actually used this last week and it worked! Felt weird paying for it, but after weeks of failed attempts, I was desperate. Got through in about an hour.

Pro tip: have all your documents ready before you call. They'll ask for your SSN, ID, and probably some employment info. Makes the process go way smoother once you actually get through.

This whole system is a JOKE. How tf are we supposed to survive when we can't even get our benefits? 🤬 The government needs to fix this shit ASAP.

Calm down, Karen. They're probably just overwhelmed with all the claims rn

@profile10 Overwhelmed? It's been over a year since the pandemic started. They've had plenty of time to get their act together. 🙄

Here's what worked for me: 1. Call exactly at 8:01 AM when they open 2. If you get a busy signal, hang up and redial immediately 3. Repeat step 2 until you get in the queue 4. Once in the queue, DO NOT HANG UP no matter how long it takes 5. Have all your docs ready (SSN, ID, employment history) 6. Be super nice to the rep when you finally get one (they deal with angry people all day) It took me about 3 days of trying, but I finally got through and got my identity verified. Good luck!

This is solid advice. I'd add: use a phone with a good battery or keep it plugged in. Nothing worse than your phone dying after hours on hold!

Has anyone tried reaching out to their local state representative? I've heard some people had luck getting help that way when they couldn't get through to EDD directly.

I did this! It took about a week, but my rep's office was able to escalate my case and get someone from EDD to call me back. Worth a shot if you're stuck.

I used that claimyr service someone mentioned earlier. Took about 2 hours on hold, but at least I didn't have to sit there hitting redial all day!
