EDD Disability Pay Question - Will I get paid for partial week after return-to-work date?
I'm super confused about my husband's disability claim. He was on temporary disability but just returned to work on September 3rd. When I certified for him yesterday, I honestly reported that he returned to work on the 3rd. Now I'm freaking out wondering if EDD will still pay him for August 26-30th (the days before he went back to work). Does anyone know how this works? Do you get paid for partial weeks when returning from disability? Or did I just cost us a whole week of benefits by reporting his return date? We're really counting on that money and I'm worried I messed something up.

•Oh thank goodness! I was stressing out all night. So you're saying they'll prorate the week and pay for those 5 days? I got so confused because with regular UI it seems different.

The previous comment is correct, but let me clarify: With State Disability Insurance (SDI), EDD calculates benefits on a daily basis, not weekly like regular Unemployment Insurance (UI). Since your husband worked starting September 3rd, he should receive disability benefits for August 26-30th only. When you certified and reported the return-to-work date correctly, the system will automatically prorate that final week. You did the right thing by reporting accurately! The payment might be slightly delayed as the system processes the partial week, but it should come through. Just keep an eye on his payment history in the SDI Online account.

•This happened to me last year and it took FOREVER for that last partial payment to process. Like 3 weeks longer than normal! EDD seriously needs to fix their system! I ended up having to call them 27 times before I got through to fix it. So frustrating!

If you're still having trouble getting that last payment after a couple weeks, try using Claimyr to get through to an EDD representative quickly. I was in a similar situation with my disability claim ending and needed answers about my final payment. Spent days trying to call with no luck. Used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 20 minutes who fixed everything. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Saved me so much frustration!

•Is that service legit? I've been trying to reach someone at EDD for WEEKS about my disability extension and keep getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. At this point I'm desperate but nervous about using third-party services.

EDD disability is so different from regular unemployment! When my wife was on maternity leave they paid her day by day but the last payment was weird. It showed up fine tho eventually lol

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO CONFUSE US!!! I swear they make everything complicated on purpose so people give up trying to get their money. I had the EXACT same thing happen but with regular UI not disability and they DIDN'T pay me for the partial week even though they should have. Had to appeal and everything. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING and keep calling until you get someone who actually knows what they're doing!!!

•Actually, there's a key difference here. Regular UI (unemployment) and SDI (disability) handle partial weeks differently. With UI, you may not get paid for a partial week depending on how much you earn during that week. With SDI, you absolutely get paid for each individual day you're still on disability before returning to work. They're different programs with different rules, so your experience with UI wouldn't apply to this disability situation.

Thank you all SO MUCH for the help! I checked his account this morning and it shows the payment is processing for those 5 days (Aug 26-30). It's showing a different amount than his usual weekly payment, so you were right about it being prorated. Such a relief! I'll let you know if we have any issues with it actually hitting our account.
