EDD payment stuck on pending when work return date changed - will I still get paid?

I've been on unemployment for about 2 months and my employer originally told me I'd be returning to work on August 1st. There was some kind of issue with their reopening schedule, so now they're bringing me back August 4th instead (just a 3-day difference). When I certified for my benefits this week, one week says "paid" but the week that includes August 1st now shows "pending" status. I reported everything honestly on my certification - said I was scheduled to return but then the date changed. Will EDD still pay me for that pending week? Anyone else had this happen with a changed return-to-work date? I'm stressing about bills since I was counting on both weeks of payment.

ya this happened 2 me last year. just wait a day or 2 and it will switch to paid. thier system gets confused when u put info that dosnt match what they expect.

Thanks for the quick reply! It's been 3 days already so I'm getting nervous. Did yours automatically switch to paid or did you have to call someone?

The pending status is likely because the system flagged a discrepancy between your expected return date and what you reported on certification. When you certify and indicate a change in your work status or availability, it often triggers a manual review. Unfortunately, these reviews can take 1-3 weeks depending on current workload at EDD. You have two options: 1. Wait for the manual review to complete (safest but slowest) 2. Contact EDD to explain the situation and potentially expedite the review Since you already have one week showing as paid, they clearly haven't disqualified you completely - it's just that specific week being flagged for review because of the return date change.

Ugh, 1-3 WEEKS?? I can't wait that long. I've been trying to call EDD for the past two days but can't get through. It just says they're experiencing high call volume and hangs up.

THE EXACT SAME THING happened to me in June!!!! They held my payment for THREE WEEKS because my return date changed by 2 days!! EDD is such a joke sometimes! I had to call them 47 TIMES before I got through to someone who fixed it in literally 2 minutes. The system is designed to punish honest people I swear.

47 times?? That's insane. Did you just keep hitting redial over and over? I've tried maybe 15 times today and I'm already losing my mind.

I've found that Claimyr really helps with getting through to EDD when you're stuck in pending. It basically holds your place in line and calls you back when an agent is available. Saved me hours of redial frustration. Their demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km shows how it works. I was skeptical at first but when I had a pending payment issue like yours, it got me connected to someone who fixed it right away. You can check them out at claimyr.com - way better than spending days trying to get through.

Is this actually legit? Sounds like a scam to me. EDD always tells you not to use third-party services. How does it even work without giving them your personal info?

It's legitimate - they don't access your EDD account or anything. They just help navigate the phone system to get you connected with an actual EDD rep. Then you talk directly with EDD yourself. I was desperate after trying for days and it worked for me.

This is a common issue with return-to-work date changes. The EDD system flags these for review because they need to verify your eligibility for that week. Here's what's actually happening: When you report a return-to-work date during certification, EDD automatically sets an expectation for when your claim should end. When that date changes (even by a few days), the system requires verification that you were still eligible during that period. If you were available for work and actively seeking work during those 3 days (August 1-3), you should still be eligible for benefits. The key factors are: 1. Were you able and available to work? 2. Were you still searching for work per EDD requirements? 3. Did you accurately report the situation on your certification? If you answered yes to all three, your pending payment should eventually be approved, though unfortunately it will likely require speaking with a representative to expedite the process.

Thank you for explaining this so clearly. Yes, I was available and looking for work those days - I even applied to a couple jobs online while waiting for my return date. So it sounds like I need to get through to a rep somehow to explain this.

UPDATE: I finally got through to EDD! The rep said exactly what some of you mentioned - the system flagged my certification because of the return date change. She reviewed my account, confirmed I was still eligible for those days, and manually pushed the payment through. She said it should switch from pending to paid within 24-48 hours. Just sharing in case anyone else runs into this issue!

Great news! That's exactly what I thought would happen. For future reference (for anyone reading), when you know your return-to-work date is changing, it's helpful to add a note in the comments section of your certification explaining the situation. While it might not prevent the pending status, it creates a record of your transparency that can help speed up the review process.

How did you even get through?? I'm still trying to reach them about a different issue!

I actually tried that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. I was desperate and it worked - got connected to a rep within about an hour instead of spending days redialing.
