EDD payment stuck pending after reporting new full-time job - Will I still get paid for non-working week?
So I just started a new full-time position at a medical office last week (5/22/2025) and certified for my benefits yesterday. The certification covered two weeks - the week before I started (where I didn't work at all) and my first week at the new job (where I worked 40 hours). I reported everything honestly, including that I found full-time work. Here's my concern: my certification is showing as "Pending" instead of changing to "Paid" like it usually does almost instantly after I certify. I'm worried about getting the $610 for the week I didn't work at all. Is this normal when you report finding a full-time job? Do I need to call EDD to get this sorted out, or will it eventually change to paid? I'm really counting on that money for bills I had to put off while job hunting.

This is totally normal when you report starting a new full-time job. The system flags your certification for review to make sure everything's correct before sending your final payment. They're basically double-checking that your report of starting work is accurate. As long as you reported everything correctly (which it sounds like you did), you should still receive payment for the week you didn't work. Usually takes 3-5 business days to clear instead of the instant approval you're used to. No need to call unless it stays pending for more than a week.

•Thank you so much! That's a huge relief. I was getting nervous because I've never seen the pending status last this long before. I'll give it until next week before I start worrying.

•This is why I love this forum! Always reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing recently. 👍

It might not be as simple as others are suggesting. When you report starting full-time work, EDD sometimes puts your claim on hold and requires an eligibility interview to verify your employment status changed. This is especially true if there's any discrepancy between the hours/wages you reported and what your new employer might report. I'd recommend calling EDD to check if there's an interview scheduled or if there's anything else needed to release that payment. No point waiting if there's actually something they need from you.

•Oh no, that sounds stressful. Do you think it matters that my new employer probably hasn't reported anything yet since I just started last week? Should I wait a few days first or try calling right away?

ALWAYS CALL THEM!!!! They "review" things forever if you don't. I waited 3 weeks on "pending" when I got my new job thinking it would resolve itself. It never did until I called. The rep fixed it in 5 minutes and told me it was just sitting there in the system with nobody looking at it.

•This is exactly right! The system flags these final payments but then they sit in a queue forever unless you call. I tried calling EDD for days but couldn't get through because of the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to connect with an agent. They have this system that calls EDD for you and gets you through to a rep. Watched their demo video (https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km) and was skeptical, but it actually worked. Got connected to an agent who released my payment the same day. Definitely worth it for that final payment that was stuck pending for almost 2 weeks.

Let me clear up some confusion here. When you report finding a full-time job, there are two different situations that can occur: 1. System automatic review: This takes 2-5 days and happens frequently, as some posters mentioned 2. Manual review with interview: This happens if there are discrepancies or if your claim has certain flags on it For most people, it's just the automatic review. You'll still get your $610 for the week you weren't working, even though you started work the following week. The key is that you reported everything accurately. If it stays pending beyond 5 business days, then it's likely in manual review and you should call. Also, make sure you reported your last day as available for work correctly. If you put that you were no longer available for work during that first non-working week (because you accepted the job offer), that could cause issues with that payment.

•That's really helpful information! I did report that I was available and looking for work during the week I wasn't working, and then reported that I found work and started the following week. So it sounds like I did everything right. I'll wait 5 business days before calling. Thanks for the detailed explanation!
