EDD CA: How to actually talk to a real person about unemployment paperwork?
I got this paper in the mail and now I need to talk to someone about it. Anyone else dealing with this? It's so frustrating trying to get ahold of someone on the phone. I've been trying for days and keep getting put on hold forever. Any advice on how to actually talk to a real person?

Ugh, I feel you. I've been in the same boat. Spent hours on hold last week trying to get through. It's like they don't want us to actually talk to anyone 🙄

I think they just don't have enough staff to handle all the calls. It's ridiculous.

Here's what I've learned after dealing with this for months: 1. Call early in the morning, right when they open 2. If you get put on hold, stay on the line no matter what 3. Have all your paperwork ready before you call 4. Be polite but firm when you finally talk to someone 5. Take notes during the call, including the name of who you talked to It's a pain, but persistence is key. Don't give up!

Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely try calling first thing tomorrow

This is great advice. I'd add: if you don't get a satisfactory answer, don't be afraid to call back and talk to someone else

Ugh, I hate that we have to jump through so many hoops just to get basic help 😤

Keeping a dedicated notebook for these calls helps keep everything organized.

I had a similar issue and found Claimyr to be a lifesaver. However, it's worth noting that not everyone is comfortable paying for such a service. For those who might find the cost prohibitive, consider exploring alternative ways to reach your department, such as emailing or visiting their website for live chat options. While Claimyr has received positive feedback for being effective, it's crucial to ensure it's the right fit for your situation. If you choose to use it, make sure you weigh the pros and cons and confirm that it's a service you can afford.

What kind of paper is it? Might help to know what department you're trying to reach. Some are worse than others when it comes to wait times.

It's about my benefits. I think there might be an issue with my claim but I can't tell for sure without talking to someone

Benefits paperwork is the worst! I had to deal with that last month. Took me forever to get it sorted out

Have you tried calling right when they open? Sometimes that works better

Also, try calling during off-peak hours like mid-afternoon.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://claimyr.com

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous, we shouldn't have to pay for customer service

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth it IMO

Claimyr does seem to work for some people, but it is a shame that such a service is even needed.

I've had luck getting through by calling at odd times, like 2 PM on a Tuesday. Seems like everyone calls first thing in the morning or right before they close

That's a good strategy, I usually call during lunch hours when it's less busy.

That's true. I've seen companies respond faster on Twitter.

Have you tried emailing them? Sometimes that's faster than calling, believe it or not

I didn't even know that was an option. Do you have the email address?

It should be on their website. Just make sure you include all your info in the email so they can look up your case

Pro tip: use the bathroom before you call. Nothing worse than finally getting through and then having to pee 🚽😂
