EDD Appeal/Overpayment Issue - Need Advice on Next Steps
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with an EDD appeal or overpayment issue and I'm not sure what to do next. Has anyone gone through this process before? Any advice on how to handle it or what to expect? I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed and could use some guidance.

Ugh, I feel your pain. I went through an EDD appeal last year and it was a nightmare. The whole process took like 6 months for me. My advice? Document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every email. It'll help your case if you need to prove anything later.

6 months?! š± That's insane. Did you have to pay back any money during that time?

Nah, thankfully they put a hold on collections during the appeal process. But it was still stressful af not knowing what was gonna happen.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

I get the skepticism, but it seriously worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

Can you give more details about how it works? Like, do you have to give them your personal info?

Sure! You just put in your phone number and pick which EDD line you want to call. They do all the annoying menu navigation and waiting on hold. When an agent picks up, they connect the call to your phone. No need to give any sensitive info.

Here's what you need to know about EDD appeals and overpayments: ā¢ First, don't panic. You have rights and options. ā¢ If you received an overpayment notice, you have 30 days to appeal. ā¢ During the appeal process, collections are usually paused. ā¢ Gather all relevant documents: pay stubs, communication with EDD, etc. ā¢ Consider getting legal aid. Many non-profits offer free help with EDD issues. ā¢ Be prepared for a long process. Appeals can take months. ā¢ If you lose the appeal, you may be able to request a waiver or set up a payment plan. ā¢ Stay persistent and don't be afraid to escalate to a supervisor if needed. Remember, many people have gone through this and come out okay. You've got this! šŖ

Thank you so much for this detailed info! It really helps to have it all laid out like that. Do you know if I need a lawyer for the appeal process?

You don't necessarily need a lawyer, but it can be helpful. Many people successfully appeal on their own. If you decide to get legal help, look into free resources first. Legal Aid Society often assists with EDD cases.

Has anyone had luck with getting an overpayment waived? I'm in a similar boat and I'm worried I'll have to pay back thousands I don't have š°

I got a partial waiver. Had to prove financial hardship. It's not easy but it's possible!

Same here. They waived about half of what I owed. Def worth trying if you're struggling.

Pro tip: If you're calling EDD, try early in the morning right when they open. I've had better luck getting through that way.

This! Also, Tuesdays and Wednesdays seem to be less busy in my experience.

Anybody else feel like they need a PhD in bureaucracy to navigate this stuff? š¤ Like, why can't they make it simpler for people who are already stressed about money?

For real tho. I spend more time figuring out EDD stuff than I do job hunting š
