EDD Appeal for Disqualification: Tips and Advice Needed for California SDI Hearing

Hey everyone, I'm dealing with an EDD appeal for a disqualification issue. Has anyone gone through this before? I'm not sure what to expect or how to prepare. Any advice would be really appreciated!

Sean Doyle

Ugh, the EDD is such a nightmare. I swear they make it confusing on purpose šŸ™„ Good luck!

I went through this last year. Here's what helped me: ā€¢ Write down your case clearly. Practice explaining why you're eligible. ā€¢ Be polite but firm when you talk to them. Don't let them push you around. ā€¢ Ask specific questions like "Why exactly was I disqualified?" and "What do you need from me to reconsider?" ā€¢ DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. Take notes during calls, save emails, etc. ā€¢ Follow up quickly if they ask for more info. Hope this helps! Hang in there, it's a process but you can do it.

Yo, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site called claimyr.com. It's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to your phone. It costs $20, but it works. Check out this video: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

For real? That sounds too good to be true. How does it work exactly?

$20 just to make a phone call? Thats ridiculous. The system is so broken šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

@profile 8 Yeah, it's legit. You pay, they call and wait on hold, then when someone picks up, they connect you. Saved me hours of frustration. @profile 9 I get it, but honestly, after wasting days trying to get through, $20 was worth it for me. Sometimes you gotta play the game, ya know?

I used Claimyr too, and it was a lifesaver. But I do understand the hesitation. It's a shame it's needed in the first place, but it can expedite things.

Thanks for the advice everyone! @profile 3, those tips are super helpful. I'm definitely gonna write everything down. Quick question - how long did your appeal process take?

It took about 2 months for me, but I've heard it can vary. Some people get lucky and it's faster, others... not so much. Just keep following up!

Been there, done that. First things first, gather ALL your documents. I mean everything - disqualification notice, any emails or letters from EDD, proof of eligibility, the works. You'll need it all.

I did! My state assembly member's office was actually super helpful. Took a few weeks, but they got things moving for me.

I second this. Calling doesn't always yield results but if you happen to get through, being calm and concise can sometimes make a difference.

Dealing with EDD appeals can be daunting, but being prepared and proactive can make a significant difference. First, ensure you have a comprehensive file of all relevant documents, including correspondence with EDD. Practice explaining your situation clearly and confidently, as you will need to defend your eligibility. It's crucial to stay courteous yet assertive when engaging with EDD representatives. If possible, utilize tools like Claimyr, which can save you time by navigating their complex phone system. However, keep in mind that while Claimyr is beneficial, it reflects the challenges of dealing with EDD. Additionally, consider exploring legal assistance if you find the process overwhelming. Some attorneys offer free consultations that can provide valuable guidance. Lastly, don't underestimate the power of reaching out to your local representatives, as they may expedite the process. Remember, persistence is key, and you're not alone in this struggle. Stay organized, follow up diligently, and lean on the community for support. Good luck!

Legal help can be beneficial, especially if your case is complex. Consultations can give you a sense of direction even if you don't hire a lawyer full-time.
