EDD denied all my benefits - need advice on appealing
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a denied benefits claim from EDD and I'm planning to appeal. Has anyone gone through this process before? I'm feeling pretty lost and could use some advice on how to handle the appeal. They've denied all my benefits and I'm not sure where to start.

I've been there, it's a tough situation. First thing you should do is request a hearing ASAP. You only have a limited time to appeal, so don't wait! Make sure you gather all your documents - paystubs, termination letter, anything that supports your case. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! How long did your appeal process take? I'm worried about making ends meet while I wait.

It took about 2 months for me, but I've heard it can vary. Definitely look into local food banks and assistance programs while you wait. Hang in there!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Ize0EkN4HDI

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Anyone else tried it?

Yeah, it's legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

$20 to actually talk to a human? 🤔 Might have to try this... EDD's phone system is driving me insane

Pro tip: if you can afford it, consider hiring an unemployment lawyer. They know all the ins and outs of the system and can really increase your chances of winning the appeal. I struck out on my own the first time, but won with a lawyer's help.

That's a good idea, but I'm already struggling financially. Do you know if there are any free legal resources available?

Check with your local legal aid society. They often offer free or low-cost help for unemployment cases. Also, some lawyers do free consultations, so it might be worth shopping around.

I hate to be that guy, but have you double-checked that you're actually eligible? EDD rules can be super confusing. It might be worth reviewing the eligibility criteria just to make sure there wasn't a misunderstanding somewhere along the line.

Yeah, I've gone over it multiple times. As far as I can tell, I should be eligible. That's why the denial is so frustrating.

Gotcha. Then definitely appeal! Sounds like they mightve made a mistake on their end. Keep us updated on how it goes!

Okay, here's my comprehensive guide to appealing an EDD denial. I've been through this twice (thanks, California job market 🙃) and learned a lot: 1. File your appeal IMMEDIATELY. You only have 30 days from the date on your denial notice. 2. Gather all your evidence. This includes: - Pay stubs - Employment contract - Termination letter (if applicable) - Any correspondence with your employer - Doctor's notes (if your claim is health-related) 3. Write a clear, concise statement explaining why you believe the decision is wrong. Stick to the facts. 4. Request a hearing in writing, even if you've done it online. 5. Prepare for your hearing: - Review all EDD rules related to your case - Practice explaining your situation - Bring copies of ALL your documents 6. At the hearing, be polite but firm. Answer questions directly and honestly. 7. If you lose the appeal, you can appeal to the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board. Remember, persistence is key. The system is overloaded, but don't give up! You got this! 💪

Hey OP, just wanted to say hang in there. I know it feels hopeless right now, but don't give up. I was in your shoes last year and it was rough, but I finally got my benefits. You got this!
