EDD Appeal WIN - how long for Money Network card & payment after favorable decision?

Finally got some good news! After 3 months of fighting, I just received notice that I WON my appeal hearing from last week! The judge agreed that my employer fired me without misconduct (they tried claiming I was chronically late, but I had proof that their time clock system was broken and my supervisor knew about it). Now I'm wondering about the timeline for actually getting PAID since I've never received any money yet. I don't have a Money Network card or anything set up in the system. How long does it typically take after an appeal decision for: 1. The payments to be switched from disqualified to approved in the system? 2. Getting a Money Network card in the mail? 3. The back payments to actually show up on the card? I'm down to my last $230 and rent is due in 2 weeks, so I'm really anxious about the timeline. When I log into UI Online it still shows all my certifications as "Disqualified" even though I got the appeal decision letter yesterday. Thanks in advance for any info!

Congrats on winning your appeal! Here's what typically happens post-appeal: 1. Status Change: It takes about 7-10 business days for EDD to process the judge's decision and change your certifications from "Disqualified" to "Paid" in the system 2. Money Network Card: If you've never received benefits before, they'll automatically mail you a card once your payments are approved. This usually takes 5-7 business days after your status changes to "Paid" 3. Back Payments: Once your card arrives, the funds should already be loaded onto it. All your retroactive benefits will be included in one lump sum If your rent is due in 2 weeks, you might just make it in time, but it could be cutting it close. I recommend calling EDD to see if they can expedite the process given your financial situation.

Thank you so much for this detailed breakdown! Really helps to have actual timeframes to plan around. Do you think there's any chance I could request direct deposit instead of waiting for the card? Or is it too late for that since they're probably already processing the Money Network card?

when i won my apeel it tok FORVER to get paid!! like 3 weeks before my card came and another week b4 the $ was on it. EDD is sooooo slow with everything lol. but congrats on winning tho!

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. Did you try calling them to speed things up at all? I'm seriously stressing about making rent.

I'm in almost the exact same boat! Judge ruled in my favor last month but I'm STILL waiting for some of my backpay. The whole system is messed up. First they took forever to update my certifications (like 12 days). Then I finally got the card but only HALF of what I was owed was on it!!! Now I'm calling every day trying to find out where the rest is. They keep saying "it's processing" whatever that means. I wouldn't count on getting everything in 2 weeks honestly. The EDD is a nightmare even AFTER you win your appeal.

This is why so many people end up homeless in California despite having legitimate unemployment claims. The system is DESIGNED to delay payments and make it impossible to get help when you actually need it. They hope you'll just give up. I've seen it happen to dozens of people in my advocacy work. It's disgusting.

If you're worried about making rent, don't wait around hoping EDD will process things quickly. I highly recommend using Claimyr to get through to an EDD representative immediately. After my appeal win, my payments were stuck in limbo until I called and spoke to a specialist who manually released them. Saved me weeks of waiting! Check out their demo video: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Their service bypasses the phone queue and connects you to an actual EDD rep who can help expedite your payment processing. I was skeptical at first but the service at claimyr.com literally saved me from eviction last year when I was in your exact situation.

does this actually work? i tryed calling EDD like 50 times last month and never got thru...

Yes, it absolutely works. The difference is they have technology that keeps dialing for you and jumps in line when there's an opening. Much better than manually hitting redial all day.

Here's what to do for the fastest results: 1) Call EDD and specifically request they expedite your card due to financial hardship. Tell them explicitly about your rent situation. Sometimes they can rush the card delivery to 3 business days instead of 7-10. 2) In the meantime, you should still see your certification status change from "Disqualified" to "Paid" in UI Online before the card arrives. Keep checking daily. 3) When your Money Network card arrives, immediately activate it and set up the mobile app. This lets you transfer funds to your bank account instead of waiting for the physical card to arrive if you need the money quickly. 4) If your status doesn't change to "Paid" within 7 business days of receiving your appeal decision, definitely call. Sometimes the judge's decision doesn't get properly transmitted to the payment department and it needs to be manually flagged. Hope this helps and congratulations on your appeal win!

This is super helpful, thank you! I didn't know about the mobile app for transfers - that could be a lifesaver. I'm going to try calling tomorrow morning as soon as they open.

I got mine in the mail. The judge didn't tell me anything at the hearing either, just said I'd be notified. It took about 10 days after the hearing for the letter to arrive. Hopefully yours comes soon!

One thing that hasn't been mentioned - if you've never had an EDD payment before, you'll need to verify your identity through ID.me before you'll receive any payments. Make sure that's been completed successfully or it could cause further delays. You should see in your UI Online account if that's required.

Oh, I did complete ID.me verification way back when I first applied! Thankfully that part is done. Good reminder though - I would have been so frustrated if that was holding things up and I didn't realize it.

Just a reminder that you need to keep certifying for benefits every two weeks even while waiting for your appeal decision to be processed. Some people stop certifying thinking they can't get paid anyway, but then have to go through a whole separate process to certify for those weeks later. Have you been keeping up with your certifications?

Yes, I've been certifying religiously every two weeks! Even though they were all showing as "Disqualified," I figured it was better to keep doing it just in case I won the appeal. So I should have about 12 weeks of back certifications that need to be paid now.

Update on my situation that might help you: I FINALLY got through to someone at EDD yesterday after using that Claimyr service another poster mentioned. The rep told me my remaining payments were stuck because of a "payment block code" that wasn't automatically removed after the appeal decision. She removed it manually and said my remaining payments should process in 24-48 hours. You might want to specifically ask if there are any block codes on your account when you call!

That's really good to know! I'll definitely ask about block codes when I call. Thanks for the update and glad you're finally getting your money!

Congrats on winning your appeal! That's such a relief after 3 months of fighting. I went through something similar last year - won my appeal but then had to wait what felt like forever for the actual payments. From my experience, here's a realistic timeline: - System updates: 5-10 business days (sometimes longer if there are glitches) - Money Network card arrival: 7-10 business days after status changes - Funds loaded: Usually same day the card arrives, but sometimes takes 1-2 extra days One tip that helped me: when you call EDD, ask them to put a "priority flag" on your account due to financial hardship. Some reps can do this and it supposedly speeds up processing. Also, once your card arrives, you can transfer money to your bank account through the Money Network app instead of waiting for ATM access. Keep checking UI Online daily - when those certifications flip from "Disqualified" to "Paid," that's when you know the wheels are really in motion. Fingers crossed you make your rent deadline! The waiting is the worst part but you're almost there.

Thanks for sharing your timeline - it's really helpful to hear from someone who's been through this exact situation! I'm definitely going to ask about that "priority flag" when I call. Do you remember if the rep mentioned any specific department or code they used for the financial hardship flag? I want to make sure I use the right language when I talk to them. Also, did you have to provide any documentation to prove the hardship or was it just based on what you told them over the phone?

I'm in a really similar situation - just won my appeal last week after being wrongfully denied for "voluntarily quitting" when I was actually laid off due to budget cuts. Still waiting to see any changes in my UI Online account and getting super anxious about when the money will actually come through. One thing I learned from talking to other people who've been through this: apparently you can sometimes get expedited processing if you call and explain that you're facing eviction or losing essential services. I haven't tried it yet but planning to call first thing Monday morning. Also, I've heard mixed things about whether you can switch to direct deposit at this point in the process. Some people say if you call before they mail the card you might be able to request direct deposit instead, but others say once the appeal is won they automatically default to the Money Network card system. Might be worth asking when you call! Really hoping we both get our money soon - this whole process has been such a nightmare but at least we made it through the hardest part (winning the appeal). Keeping my fingers crossed for both of us!

Hey Jamal, sounds like we're both in the same frustrating waiting game! I'm definitely planning to call Monday too and will ask about that expedited processing for financial hardship. If you end up calling before me, let me know what they say about switching to direct deposit - I'd much rather have the money go straight to my bank account than wait for a card to arrive. This whole Money Network card system seems like just another unnecessary delay when people are already desperate for their money. Really hope both of our accounts update soon - the stress of not knowing when the payments will actually come through is almost as bad as the original appeal process!

I went through this exact situation about 6 months ago and totally understand your anxiety about the timeline! Here's what actually happened in my case: The good news is that since you've already completed ID.me verification and have been consistently certifying, you should be in better shape than most people. My certifications took about 8 business days to flip from "Disqualified" to "Paid" after I received my appeal decision letter. However, I ran into the same issue that Abigail mentioned - only got partial payment initially. Turns out there was an automatic "overpayment hold" on my account from when they originally denied my claim. The system thought I owed money back even though I'd never received any payments! I had to call specifically to get that removed. Since you're cutting it close with rent, I'd recommend calling EDD tomorrow and asking these specific questions: 1. Are there any payment holds or block codes on my account? 2. Can you expedite my Money Network card due to financial hardship? 3. What's the exact timeline for my back payments to be released? Also, once you do get the card, you can instantly transfer up to $1,000 per day to your bank account through the app, which might help if you need to pay rent quickly. The transfer usually shows up in your bank account within a few hours. Hang in there - you've made it through the hardest part!

This is incredibly helpful, Sean! I hadn't even thought about the possibility of payment holds or overpayment issues - that would be such a nightmare on top of everything else. I'm definitely going to ask about those specific block codes when I call. The $1,000 daily transfer limit through the app is good to know too, that should be enough to cover rent if the timing works out. Really appreciate you sharing your actual timeline - 8 business days for the status to flip gives me a realistic expectation instead of just hoping it happens overnight. Did you have to call multiple times to get the overpayment hold removed, or were they able to fix it in one call once you reached the right person?

Just wanted to add my experience since I went through this exact same situation about 8 months ago. After winning my appeal, it took exactly 9 business days for my certifications to change from "Disqualified" to "Paid" in UI Online. The Money Network card arrived 6 days after that status change. One thing that really helped me was calling EDD the day after I received my appeal decision letter and asking them to put a note on my account about my financial situation. I explained I was at risk of losing my housing and the rep was actually very understanding. She couldn't guarantee faster processing but said she added a "hardship flag" to my account. Also, definitely keep screenshots of your appeal decision letter and check UI Online multiple times per day. When those certifications flip to "Paid," that's when you know the money is actually coming. The waiting is absolutely brutal when you're down to your last few dollars, but you're so close to the finish line now! If your status doesn't change by early next week, definitely call and ask specifically about payment blocks or holds on your account. Sometimes the appeal decision doesn't automatically trigger the payment release and it needs manual intervention. You've got this - congrats again on winning your appeal!
