Confused about IME report to EDD - will payments stop on 6/26?
I'm completely lost about this IME (Independent Medical Examiner) situation. I had my appointment with the IME doctor on 6/26, but it seems like nobody has sent any paperwork to EDD yet. I've called the medical office twice asking about the status but they just keep saying it's "being processed." When I finally got through to EDD yesterday, the rep told me something really confusing - that I would only get paid between the 21st-25th, and no payments can be processed after the 26th because they're waiting on the IME report? Does this mean my benefits are completely stopping? I've been receiving disability after a workplace injury, and I can't afford to have payments suddenly cut off. Has anyone dealt with this IME paperwork delay before? How long does it normally take for them to submit their findings to EDD?

•3 weeks?? That's terrifying. Did you have to do anything to make sure they processed it, or did it just eventually show up on its own? I'm so worried about missing rent.

It sounds like you're on SDI (State Disability Insurance), not regular unemployment benefits. The IME is part of the medical review process for disability claims. What the EDD representative likely meant is that your current benefit period ends on the 26th and they won't authorize additional payments until they receive and review the IME report. Typically, the IME doctors have 10-14 business days to submit their reports to EDD, but it can sometimes take longer. Your best course of action is to contact your SDI case worker directly (not just any EDD representative) and ask for the status. They may be able to authorize a temporary extension while waiting for the report.

•Thank you!! Yes, it's SDI, not regular unemployment. I didn't realize there was a difference in who I should contact. Do you know how to reach the specific SDI caseworker? Whenever I call the main number it's just a general representative.

I went through this exact nightmare back in March! The IME report took 23 days to reach EDD for my claim, and my payments were definitely interrupted. What helped me was getting in touch with an actual human at EDD who could check the status of the report and push things along. After struggling with the phone lines for days (constantly getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message), I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) which got me connected to an EDD rep in about 18 minutes instead of spending hours redialing. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Once I got through, the rep was able to see my IME was actually received but stuck in processing, and they expedited it. My payments resumed the following week.

Let me clarify a few things about the IME process with EDD disability claims: 1. The IME doctor generally has 14 calendar days to submit their report to EDD after your examination 2. EDD typically won't make payment decisions until they receive this report 3. What the representative told you about the 21st-25th payment window suggests your current certification period is ending 4. Once the IME report is received, EDD will determine if your disability benefits should continue Here's what you should do: - Call the SDI office directly at 1-800-480-3287 (not the regular EDD unemployment line) - Ask specifically about the status of your IME report and what's needed to ensure continuous payment - Request to speak with your disability claims examiner if possible - If your benefits are interrupted, they should be paid retroactively once the report is processed Documentation is critical here - keep records of all your calls, who you spoke with, and what was said.

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I've been calling the wrong number this whole time. I'll try the SDI number tomorrow morning. Do you know if I need to submit any additional paperwork while waiting for the IME report to be processed?

THE EDD IS SUCH A DISASTER!!!!! I had an IME appointment in January and they "lost" my paperwork TWICE!!!! I went 2 MONTHS with no payments because of their incompetence!!!! Call them EVERY SINGLE DAY and document EVERYTHING. The IME doctors work for insurance companies and they are PAID to deny claims!!! They probably "lost" your paperwork on purpose to try to get you to give up on your claim!!!!!

To answer your follow-up question: You typically don't need to submit additional paperwork while waiting for the IME report. However, if you're nearing the end of your benefit period (which it sounds like you are), you should make sure you've completed any continuing certification forms. These are different from unemployment certifications - for SDI, you may need to have your treating physician submit updated medical information. Check your SDI Online account for any pending forms or reach out to your claims examiner as suggested above.

•I just checked my SDI Online account and you're right - there IS a continuing certification form due! I completely missed it. Going to get that to my doctor right away. Thank you so much.

•You're correct. The original poster is on SDI (State Disability Insurance), not regular unemployment. The IME (Independent Medical Examination) is specifically for disability claims when EDD wants to verify a claimant's medical condition. Regular UI benefits don't involve medical examinations.

Just wanted to follow up - did you ever get through to the SDI office? Were you able to find out what's happening with your claim? I'm curious because I'll need to deal with an IME review later this year too.

•Yes! I finally got through using that Claimyr service someone mentioned above. Turns out my IME report WAS submitted on time but was sitting in someone's queue. The SDI rep marked it as urgent and my payment was processed 2 days later. The whole system is so frustrating but at least it's resolved now.

I'm dealing with a similar IME situation right now and this thread has been so helpful! One thing I learned from my case worker is that you can actually request a status update on your IME report through the SDI online portal - there's a "Contact Us" section where you can send a secure message asking specifically about IME report processing times. This way you have a written record of your inquiry and they're supposed to respond within 5 business days. It's been more reliable for me than trying to get through on the phone lines. Also, if your payments do get interrupted while waiting for the report, make sure to keep certifying for benefits if you're still within your benefit period - the payments should be retroactive once everything gets sorted out.
