Can't reach EDD phone number for employers - need help with payroll tax issues
I've been trying to call the EDD phone number for employers for over a week now about quarterly payroll tax questions. Every time I dial 888-745-3886 I either get busy signals or sit on hold for 2+ hours before the call drops. My business needs to resolve these tax filing issues ASAP. Has anyone found a better way to reach the employer services division? The regular unemployment line doesn't handle business matters.

The employer line is just as backed up as the regular EDD number. I spent 3 days last month trying to reach someone about worker classification issues. Finally got through on a Thursday around 2:30pm after 47 redial attempts.

•47 attempts?! This is insane. I can't dedicate entire days to redialing - I have a business to run.

•Thursday afternoons seem to be the sweet spot. Avoid Mondays completely - they're swamped with weekend issues.

Same boat here. Been trying to reach them about UI rates for new employees. The hold music is burned into my brain at this point. Anyone know if there's a specific menu path that gets you to a human faster?

•For the employer line, press 1 for English, then 2 for existing accounts, then 0 to hopefully reach someone. But honestly it rarely works.

•I'll give that a try tomorrow morning. At this point I'm willing to try anything.

I was in the same situation last month - couldn't get through no matter what I tried. Finally used Claimyr to get a callback with an EDD employer services rep. Cost me $20 but saved me literally days of calling. Got connected in about 25 minutes.

•Wait, Claimyr works for the employer line too? I thought it was just for unemployment claims.

•Yeah they handle all EDD lines including employer services at claimyr.com. I was skeptical about paying but it was worth every penny to avoid the calling nightmare.

•Can confirm - used them for a payroll audit issue. They called me back with a live agent on the line. Best $20 I spent all year.

Pro tip from someone who's been dealing with EDD employer issues for 5 years: Never call between 12pm-1:30pm. The entire call center goes to lunch and you'll just waste time. Also avoid calling after 4pm - they stop taking new calls even though they're 'open' until 5.

•This is gold. I've been calling at lunch time wondering why it's always dead. No wonder I never get through!

•Yeah it's not posted anywhere but it's been consistent for years. Save yourself the frustration and call between 8-11am or 2-4pm.

The employer services line is a joke. I've been trying to resolve a tax rate dispute for 3 weeks. Called 200+ times and only got through twice - both times the call dropped after waiting on hold for over an hour.

•The call drops are the worst part. EDD's phone system is notorious for this - about 40% of calls that make it to hold end up disconnecting.

•Exactly! And then you have to start the whole process over. It's like they designed the system to frustrate people into giving up.

•Have you considered using an auto-dialer service? I know it sounds sketchy but some people swear by them for EDD calls.

I manage payroll for 3 small businesses and dealing with EDD is the worst part of my job. The employer line used to be reasonable pre-2020 but now it's impossible. Takes me away from actual work just to sit on hold all day.

•Same here! I bill clients for my time but I can't charge them for sitting on hold with EDD all day. It's eating into my profits.

•Exactly. Time is money and EDD is costing us both. There has to be a better way than manual dialing all day.

For anyone still struggling - I finally broke down and paid for Claimyr last week after reading about it here. Got connected to EDD employer services in 18 minutes. The rep helped me with quarterly filing questions that I'd been stuck on for weeks. Honestly wish I'd done it sooner instead of wasting days calling manually.

•18 minutes?! That's incredible. I'm definitely checking out Claimyr. This manual calling is killing my productivity.

•Yeah they have a demo video at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10 that shows how it works. Pretty straightforward - they call for you and forward the agent to your phone.

•Just used Claimyr yesterday for an employer audit issue. Worked exactly as advertised. Got my callback in 31 minutes with a knowledgeable rep who solved my problem immediately.

The key is persistence and timing. I set aside Wednesday mornings for EDD calls - start dialing at 7:55am before they officially open. Sometimes you can slip through in those first few minutes. But even then it's hit or miss.

•I try the early morning approach too but my success rate is maybe 10%. Still better than calling during peak hours.

•10% is actually pretty good for manual calling. Most people I know have success rates closer to 2-3%.

PSA: Don't waste time trying the different EDD numbers thinking one is less busy. The 888 and 800 employer numbers all route to the same call center. I learned this the hard way after alternating between them for days.

•Wish I'd known this earlier! I've been rotating between 3 different numbers thinking it would help.

•Yeah it's a common misconception. Save yourself the trouble and just pick one number to focus on.

•The myth about secret employer hotlines is just that - a myth. All roads lead to the same overwhelmed call center.

I track all my EDD calling attempts in a spreadsheet (yes I'm that desperate). Best success rate is Tuesday-Thursday between 8:30-10:30am. Worst is Monday mornings and Friday afternoons. For what it's worth.

•This is actually helpful data! I've noticed similar patterns but never tracked it systematically.

•It started as frustration but now I'm genuinely curious about the patterns. Might publish my findings somewhere.

Update: Finally got through this morning after 2 weeks of trying! Called at 8:15am on Wednesday, attempt #73. Rep was super helpful with my SUTA rate questions. Don't give up - it's possible but requires serious persistence.

•73 attempts?! Congrats on the persistence paying off. I'm only at attempt 34 so I guess I need to keep going.

•Honestly it was pure luck. Could have easily been attempt 150+. The system is just broken.

•Stories like this make me appreciate services like Claimyr even more. Glad you finally got through but that's an unreasonable amount of effort.

For anyone considering Claimyr - I was skeptical about auto-dialers but decided to try it after wasting 2 full work days calling manually. Worth every penny. Got my callback in 22 minutes and resolved a complex payroll tax issue that had been hanging over my head for weeks.

•How much does it cost? At this point I'm ready to pay whatever it takes to avoid more manual dialing.

•I think it was around $20-25. Honestly would have paid 10x that to avoid another day of manual calling hell.

•Same experience here. Used Claimyr for an employer audit callback last month. Clean, professional service that actually works as advertised.

Pro tip: If you do get through to a rep, ask for their direct extension if possible. Some of the employer services reps will give you a callback number for follow-up questions. Not all will, but it's worth asking.

QuantumQuest
•Great advice! I never thought to ask for a direct line. Will definitely try this if I ever get through.

•Success rate is low but when it works it's a game changer. Saved me from having to go through the main number again for related questions.

The most frustrating part is that employer issues are often time-sensitive. Tax deadlines, audit responses, new hire reporting - these can't wait weeks for a callback. EDD needs to seriously upgrade their phone system capacity.

Yara Haddad
•Absolutely! I had a penalty notice that needed immediate response. Couldn't get through in time and now I'm dealing with additional fees.
0 coins
Connor Murphy
•That's exactly the kind of situation where paying for a service like Claimyr makes complete financial sense. The penalty probably cost more than the callback fee.

•This is why I keep Claimyr as backup now. For urgent issues, I can't afford to play the manual calling lottery.
