Can't log in to certify for benefits - EDD approval letter never arrived
So frustrated right now! I submitted my unemployment claim on August 29th and just got a notification that I can now certify for my weeks. Problem is, I never received the letter with my account number to actually log into UI Online. I've been calling EDD every day this week (literally 20+ times) and keep getting the 'too many callers' message or just disconnected. Has anyone had their approval letter not show up in the mail? I'm worried about missing payments since it says I need to certify within 14 days. What can I do if this letter never arrives? Is there another way to get my account number without having to speak to someone at EDD?

I had the same thing happen last year. If your UI Online notification came through, you should have received an email with instructions. Check your spam folder first. If nothing's there, try going directly to https://edd.ca.gov/login.htm and click on 'Register' instead of login. You might be able to create an account using your SSN and personal info without needing the customer account number from the letter. That worked for me!

•Thanks! I checked spam but nothing there. I tried the register option but it still asks for the EDD Customer Account Number that should've been in the letter. Keeps sending me in circles...

Dude they send those letters SO SLOW rn! Mine took like 3 weeks to show up after I got the text saying I could certify. check ur informed delivery from usps if u have that. might be on the way still

•3 weeks?? That's crazy! I do have informed delivery and nothing from EDD is showing up for tomorrow either. The certification deadline is next week though - will they backdate the payments if I miss it because their letter didn't arrive?

This happens more often than you'd think. Don't panic about the certification deadline - EDD will backdate your payments once you're able to access your account. You have a few options: 1. Keep calling EDD using the 1-800-300-5616 number. Try exactly at 8:00am when they open or around 3:30pm when call volume sometimes drops. 2. Try the automated self-service line at 1-866-333-4606. Sometimes you can get your account number through the automated system. 3. You can visit an EDD office in person (https://edd.ca.gov/en/office_locator) if you have one nearby. Bring multiple forms of ID. 4. If you received any other EDD correspondence, check if your account number appears on those documents - sometimes it's printed on other notices.

•Thank you! I didn't know about the self-service line, I'll try that today. And good to know they'll backdate payments - that was my biggest worry. I did receive an email confirmation when I first applied, but no account number on it.

I had this exact problem and spent TWO WEEKS trying to reach EDD by phone with no luck. Eventually I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. The service basically calls EDD for you and connects you when they get through. The rep gave me my account number over the phone and I was able to certify that same day. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Not sure if there's a free alternative, but after countless failed calls, it was worth it to finally get my account number and start certifying.

•I've never heard of that service before! Seems like it might be worth trying if my letter doesn't show up in the next couple days. Did they give you any trouble about providing the account number over the phone? I was worried they might have security concerns.

•They just verified my identity with SSN, DOB, address, etc. They asked a few security questions and then gave me the account number. The rep was actually really helpful and also walked me through the first certification while I was on the phone with them.

The EDD system is SO BROKEN!!!!! I had to call 37 TIMES before getting through last month. They expect us to certify on time but can't even mail a simple letter???? This is exactly why people give up on claiming benefits they're entitled to. It's all designed to frustrate us into giving up!!!!!

•It's definitely frustrating but I wouldn't say it's intentionally designed to make people give up. The system is just overwhelmed and outdated. I've worked with unemployment systems (not in California) and there are legitimate technical limitations and staffing issues. That said, they should definitely have better contingency plans for when letters don't arrive.

Quick update for anyone with this issue - I just learned that if you received the text/email notification about certifying, you can also try logging in using your SSN + PIN (if you created one when you filed). Some people can access a limited version of their account this way until the full account number arrives. Worth trying!

•You're right! I actually just tried this method and was able to get into a limited version of my account. I can see my claim is approved but still can't certify without the full account setup. At least I know everything is in the system correctly. Thanks for the tip!

Just to clarify some confusion in this thread: 1. The EDD Customer Account Number (starts with E-###) is different from your claim number. 2. If you filed online, you should have created a password during registration. You'll need both the account number AND password to access UI Online. 3. The 14-day certification window isn't a hard deadline - you can certify late (up to a certain point), but it may delay your payments. 4. If your address changed recently or was entered incorrectly, that could explain the missing mail. If all else fails, visiting an in-person office with proper ID is the most reliable solution, though it may take several hours of waiting.

•Thanks for clarifying! I'll check if there's an EDD office near me as a backup plan. My address is correct - I've received other mail at this address with no problems. I just checked my claim status using the limited access method someone suggested above, and it shows my claim as approved but waiting for me to certify.

UPDATE: My letter finally arrived today! It took exactly 12 days from when I got the notification that I could certify. For anyone else with this problem, I was able to create my full account and certify for both weeks. The system allowed me to certify even though it was technically past the 14-day window they mentioned. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Great news! Glad it worked out. How long did they say it'll take for your payment to process now that you've certified?

•The confirmation page said 24-48 hours for processing, then 1-2 days for the payment to be available on the EDD debit card (which I also need to wait to receive in the mail). So many steps!
