Anyone else certified on Sunday and still waiting for payment to hit their Money Network card? I usually get my UI deposit by Tuesday evening around 9:30pm, but it's already past that time and nothing's showing up. My UI Online account shows 'paid' status, but my card balance hasn't updated. Last payment was exactly on time two weeks ago. Getting worried because I've got rent due in three days and was counting on this money. Is the system glitching or are payments delayed across the board this week?
I'm freaking out a little bit. I certified for my UI benefits on Sunday night around 9pm like I always do, but it's now Wednesday and my payment is still showing as 'pending' in the system. I've been on unemployment for about 2 months now after the healthcare facility I worked at downsized, and this is the first time I've had any payment delays. Usually the money hits my Money Network card by Tuesday morning at the latest. I double checked my answers on the certification questions and I'm sure I didn't make any mistakes - I reported no income and confirmed I was looking for work with my 3 job contact activities. Has the system been glitchy this week? Anyone else experiencing delays with their January payments? I really need this money to cover my rent due on the 1st!
Anybody else notice this happens more on holiday weeks? My brother-in-law who works for the state (not EDD) says they're always short-staffed in January because people take vacation after the holidays. Just a thought.
I had a similar issue in November where my payment got stuck in pending for almost 2 weeks. When I finally reached EDD, they said it was because I had answered a certification question differently than before (I accidentally said I was unavailable for work on one day because I had a doctor's appointment). The rep was able to fix it immediately once I explained. Definitely worth calling if yours doesn't update by Friday.
Just got hired at a warehouse after being completely unemployed for almost 2 months. Problem is they're only giving me 25-30 hours weekly instead of full-time 40 hours I need. I'm currently receiving $580/week in unemployment benefits, and I'm confused about what happens now. Can I still certify for partial benefits since I'm not getting full-time hours? Do I report my part-time income when certifying? Will EDD automatically calculate a reduced payment or will they just cut me off completely? Really need some guidance because my rent is $2400 and even with this new job I'm barely making ends meet. Anyone dealt with this partial employment situation before?
THE EDD SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY BROKEN! I was in this exact situation and they messed up my payments for MONTHS. I reported everything correctly and they still flagged my account and froze my benefits. Good luck getting anyone on the phone to fix it too!!!!
While I understand your frustration, it's important to note that most partial unemployment claims are processed correctly. Problems most commonly occur when there are discrepancies between what claimants report and what employers report on quarterly wage statements. To avoid this, it's crucial to report gross wages accurately and keep detailed records of all hours worked and wages earned each week.
Thanks everyone for the advice! My payment finally switched from pending to paid today (took 9 days). They did reduce it based on my part-time earnings just like you all said. I'm getting about $320 in unemployment plus my part-time wages, which is helping me stay afloat until I can find something full-time. I really appreciate all the guidance!
I'm freaking out over our situation!! My husband just got put on administrative leave from his warehouse job over what seems like NOTHING. Here's what happened - he arrived at work but forgot to clock in immediately. He manually entered 8:30am as his start time later that day. His supervisor claims in her notes that he actually arrived at 8:41am and is accusing him of 'time theft' even though they supposedly have a 10-minute grace period policy! The craziest part is she APPROVED his timesheet with 8:30am but then made some note about him being late? We're pretty sure they're building a case to terminate him. If this happens, will EDD consider this misconduct and deny him benefits? It's literally over 11 minutes and we have a mortgage and two kids. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Do we need a lawyer? I'm losing sleep over this whole mess.
just wondering... does he belong to a union? cuz if he does they might be able to help with this whole mess
One more tip I forgot to mention - if he does get terminated and applies for benefits, he'll likely get a phone interview scheduled with EDD. These are REALLY important and can make or break his claim. Make sure he's available at the scheduled time (they usually only try once or twice), have all documentation ready, and be clear but brief in his explanations. The EDD interviewer will be taking notes and asking specific questions about the circumstances of separation. Also, the EDD phones are completely overwhelmed right now. When my claim had issues last year, I tried calling for weeks with no luck. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got through to a rep who fixed my claim status in minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km It was such a relief after weeks of stress and busy signals. Just mentioning it in case you run into phone troubles like I did.
I'm seriously stressing out right now. I just used up all my unemployment benefits last week and when I called EDD, they told me I can't file a new claim until January 2025 (something about my benefit year and quarters). I've been applying for jobs like crazy but the market in my field (hospitality management) is completely dead right now. Bills are piling up and my landlord isn't exactly the understanding type. Does anyone know if there are any extensions, programs, or alternatives available when you've maxed out your regular UI in California? Maybe some kind of hardship program or emergency assistance I could apply for while I keep job hunting? Any advice would seriously help because I'm about 3 weeks away from not being able to make rent.
My bf had this happen and he filed for unemployment in Nevada where his company also had offices and it worked! Do u work for a company that has locations in other states? Worth trying maybe
This advice could potentially lead to problems. UI claims should only be filed in states where you actually performed work. Filing in a state where you didn't work can be considered fraud and result in penalties, including having to repay benefits with added penalties. Multi-state claims have very specific rules about which state should receive the application based on where the work was performed.
This is why I ALWAYS tell people to save part of their unemployment payments!!! You know the system is broken but nobody ever plans ahead. Sorry if that sounds harsh but this happens to literally everyone when their benefits run out.
Thanks for the lecture, but my weekly benefit amount barely covered my rent, let alone utilities and food. Not everyone has the luxury of saving when they're on unemployment. I was hoping for actual helpful advice, not judgment.
Not everyone's financial situation allows for saving while on UI. The maximum weekly benefit in California ($450) is below the poverty line in many counties when you consider the cost of housing. Let's focus on providing constructive assistance rather than retroactive advice that can't help the current situation.

There's actually a pattern to how EDD processes payments. They do them in batches based on the last digit of your SSN, and sometimes the later batches get delayed if there are processing issues. If your UI Online account shows 'paid' status, you don't need to worry - the money is coming, just delayed. The Money Network system can also lag by 4-6 hours from when EDD releases the funds to when they actually appear on your card. Their system updates in cycles, not continuously. What many people don't realize is that Bank of America is no longer handling EDD cards - Money Network is still working out some kinks in their processing system. This is why some weeks are perfectly on time and others have these random delays.

wait they process by SSN??? is that why my roommate always gets paid before me?? we always certify at the exact same time but he gets paid like 6 hours earlier every time!!

UPDATE: Payment came through around midnight, about 4 hours later than usual. For anyone else experiencing delays, hang tight - looks like they're just running behind this week. Thanks everyone for the help and information!

Glad it worked out! Always seems like EDD issues resolve themselves right after you start panicking lol
