I'm completely stressed out. EDD says I have an overpayment from last quarter ($4,780) which I'm in the process of appealing. Now I'm due to certify this week, but when I log into UI Online there's no certification button or option anywhere! The weird thing is when I called the automated phone system (833 number), it specifically tells me 'You have weeks available to certify' but then doesn't actually let me do it! I've been calling the regular EDD number for 3 days straight - busy signals, disconnects, or 'too many callers' messages every single time. Has anyone dealt with this certification block while having an overpayment case open? Will the system eventually let me certify, or is this some kind of automatic freeze because of the overpayment? I need these benefits to pay rent next month!
I've got an EDD appeal hearing scheduled for tomorrow morning and I'm honestly freaking out a bit. Here's my situation: I was on State Disability Insurance (SDI) for about 3 months after a back injury. When that ended in February, I returned to work, but my employer cut my hours from 40 to 15 per week. I filed for partial unemployment, but apparently made a mistake on how I reported my transition from disability to reduced hours. EDD stopped my payments completely for 5 weeks (about $2,100 total) claiming I might still be disabled. I sent them my doctor's release form clearing me for work, but they ignored it and pushed my case to appeals anyway. After TONS of calls, I finally got my regular payments reinstated last week, but I'm still fighting for those 5 missing weeks plus a random "waiting week" they tacked on. Now this appeal hearing is happening tomorrow after SIX MONTHS of waiting! I uploaded all my documentation (doctor's note, work schedule showing reduced hours, everything), but I'm terrified I'll say something wrong and they'll cut off my benefits again. Should I even attend the hearing since they started paying me again? Could this backfire? Anyone been through the appeal process for something like this?
Quick update question - is your hearing in-person, phone, or video? The process is slightly different for each format. For phone hearings, make sure you're in a quiet place with good reception. For video, test your connection beforehand. For in-person, arrive 30 minutes early and dress business casual. Also, after the hearing, regardless of the outcome, you should follow up with EDD about that waiting week. If you've already served a waiting week during your benefit year, you shouldn't need to serve another one just because of this issue. That might be a separate administrative error they need to fix.
I'm in a really tough situation and need advice ASAP. My husband has been on SDI (State Disability Insurance) for almost a year now due to severe back issues from a warehouse accident. His disability year is coming to an end next month, but his doctor says he absolutely cannot return to his previous job which required heavy lifting. The doctor suggested he look into SSDI or possibly find lighter work with different duties. Here's my question - if he officially resigns from his current employer because he medically can't perform the job anymore, would he qualify for regular unemployment benefits during the transition period? We're really struggling financially and need some income while he figures out next steps and possibly retrains for something his body can handle. Has anyone successfully gone from SDI to unemployment with medical restrictions? The EDD website is so confusing on this specific situation.
I'm a former disability claims specialist, and I want to clarify something important: your husband MUST BE VERY CAREFUL if applying for both SSDI and UI simultaneously. For SSDI, he needs to prove he cannot perform substantial gainful activity. For UI, he needs to prove he CAN work. These are fundamentally contradictory claims. If he pursues both simultaneously, he could potentially face issues with one or both agencies questioning his credibility. I'd recommend consulting with a disability attorney before proceeding with both applications at once.
btw make sure ur husband ansers the EDD questions right when he certifies!!! the one about "were u able and available for work" MUST be yes or they auto-deny u!!!! also the part about did u look for work needs to be yes with actual job applications
I'm freaking out right now and need help! I just checked my Money Network card balance this morning and discovered my latest unemployment payment ($875) that was deposited on 3/12/2025 has completely vanished! According to the transaction history, someone withdrew the ENTIRE amount at a Chase ATM across town on 3/13 - but my card has been in my possession the whole time! I literally haven't used the card since going to the grocery store on 3/10. I've already called Money Network to file a fraud claim (case #88742103), but the rep said it could take 7-10 business days to investigate. Has anyone else experienced this type of fraud on their EDD card? Any advice on speeding up the investigation? I have rent due next week and was counting on that money!
Update on my situation from January: After my card was compromised, I switched to direct deposit for all future payments. It's much more secure. You can change this in your UI Online account under Payment Methods. For your current situation, make sure to emphasize to Money Network that you need an expedited review due to financial hardship. Sometimes they can prioritize cases, but you need to be very clear about the impact this is having. Also, check if your bank or credit card offers emergency loans or advances for situations like this.
Thank you for the update and advice! I just called Money Network again and specifically asked for an expedited review due to financial hardship. The rep said she would note it in my file but couldn't promise anything. I'm going to check with my credit union tomorrow about emergency assistance options. And I'm DEFINITELY switching to direct deposit once this is resolved!
I certified for my unemployment benefits yesterday morning but still haven't received my payment. This is unusual since I normally see the deposit hit my account the next day like clockwork. I'm wondering if there's a delay because I recently got that notification about switching to the new Money Network card? I haven't activated the new card yet since I was hoping to keep using direct deposit. Has anyone else experienced payment delays after the recent certification? Should I be worried or just wait another day? The EDD website still shows my payment as 'pending' with no explanation.
UPDATE: My payment finally came through this morning! It took 3 days instead of the usual 1, but at least it arrived. I didn't have to activate the new card or anything. Looks like it was just a temporary delay like some of you mentioned. Thanks everyone for your help and commiseration!
Glad to hear your payment came through! For anyone else experiencing delays beyond 3-4 days, I recommend these steps: 1. Verify your payment status has changed from "pending" to "paid" in UI Online 2. Confirm your payment method hasn't changed in the system 3. Check if there are any certification questions that might have triggered a review (answering "yes" to not being available for work, etc.) 4. If you're approaching day 5 with no payment, contact EDD directly The current Money Network transition is causing some delays, but most payments are still processing within the 3-day window.

UPDATE: I got through!! Used the Claimyr service someone recommended and was connected to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. The rep confirmed there was a certification block because of the overpayment. She removed it and let me certify for the missed weeks right while on the phone. She said the block shouldn't come back while my appeal is being processed, but if it does, I should call back right away. Payment is pending now! Thanks everyone for your help!

Great news! Glad you got it resolved. Make sure to keep certifying every two weeks on time, even while your appeal is in process. The overpayment appeal can take 6-8 weeks to resolve, but you'll continue receiving benefits in the meantime as long as you keep certifying.
