Just a quick update - I checked with a couple other claimants I know, and they're also experiencing a 1-2 day delay this week. Seems like there might be a system-wide processing slowdown. As long as your UI Online shows 'paid,' I wouldn't worry too much yet.
The whole Money Network system is a JOKE! I waited 17 days for my card while my benefits just sat there unusable. Called almost EVERY DAY and got nowhere. When it finally came, the activation process failed twice! Had to call AGAIN and spend another hour on the phone. Meanwhile, rent was late and I got hit with a $75 late fee. EDD needs to go back to direct deposit from day one as the default option.
17 days is insane! Did they give you any compensation for the delay or help with the late fee? I'm already looking at late fees for my utilities at this point.
Just to provide some updated information: I checked with our benefits coordinator this morning and they confirmed there's currently a 10-15 business day processing time for initial Money Network cards. This is longer than the normal 7-10 days due to some recent changes in their processing facilities. If you do get through to Money Network, make sure to ask them to note on your account that you've been waiting. Sometimes this can flag it for expedited processing. Also, once you do receive your card, I highly recommend immediately setting up direct deposit to avoid future delays.
anyone know when the site will be back up? i need to reopen my claim after starting a temp job that just ended yesterday
UPDATE: Just checked the EDD Twitter account (@CA_EDD) and they posted 20 minutes ago acknowledging the system outage. They said UI Online should be back up by 2PM today and apologized for the inconvenience. They also confirmed that certification deadlines today will be extended by 24 hours due to the technical issues.
anyone knows if the money network card works at atms??? my old b of a card was free at certainplaces but i had to pay fees at some atms.
Yes, the Money Network card can be used at ATMs. You get one free ATM withdrawal per deposit at MoneyPass ATMs (there's a locator on the Money Network website). Additional withdrawals or using non-MoneyPass ATMs will result in fees. You can also get cash back for free when making purchases at many stores.
Update: Just wanted to thank everyone for the helpful advice! I reopened my claim yesterday and selected direct deposit instead of the card option. The process was much smoother than I expected - took about 15 minutes total. Now I just need to wait for my first certification period. Really appreciate all the information!

@OP - To directly answer your follow-up question: Yes, stick with Saturday night certifications if you need predictable payment timing. EDD's main processing batches run early Sunday morning, and the majority of payments processed then hit accounts via Bank of America EDD debit cards or direct deposit by Monday/Tuesday. If you have a Money Network card instead of the older BofA card, timing might be slightly different, but weekend certification is still fastest.

Update on Money Network cards: Yes, EDD has been transitioning claimants from Bank of America debit cards to Money Network debit cards since 2022. If you still have a BofA card and are currently receiving benefits, you should have received information about the transition. The new Money Network cards are being issued as claimants file new claims or reopen existing ones. Regarding the original certification timing question: I've tracked my certification times for the past year, and weekend certifications (Sat/Sun) have consistently processed 12-24 hours faster than weekday certifications. This isn't official EDD policy, just my observation from experience.

•UPDATE: My status just switched to 'paid' this morning! So it took about 18 hours total. Still slower than weekend certification but not as bad as I feared. Thanks everyone for your help!
