SDI Benefit Summary Confusion - Need Help Understanding Numbers and Reaching EDD
Hey everyone, I'm having some trouble with my SDI benefits. I just got my benefit summary and I'm not sure what to make of it. My daily benefit amount is $102, weekly is $714, and my maximum benefit amount is $15,455. I've been paid $3,774 so far, leaving me with $11,681 remaining. Has anyone else gotten a similar summary? I'm wondering if this is normal or if I should be concerned about anything. Also, I tried calling the EDD but I think I got the wrong department. Any advice on how to reach the right people?

Looks pretty standard to me. Your weekly benefit amount seems decent. How long have you been on SDI? The remaining balance suggests you still have quite a bit left, which is good. As for calling, yeah, EDD's phone system is a nightmare. š

ā¢I've been on SDI for about 6 weeks now. Thanks for the reassurance about the numbers! Any tips on getting through to the right department?

ā¢6 weeks? You're still early in the process then. For calling, I'd suggest trying early in the morning, like right when they open. Sometimes you get lucky and the wait isn't as bad.

ā¢Early morning calls are hit or miss imo. I've had better luck calling just after lunch. Seems like thats when they're fully staffed š¤·āāļø

I feel ya on the wrong department thing. EDD's phone system is like a maze designed by a drunk person. 𤪠I've found that if you keep pressing 0, eventually you might get to a human who can transfer you. It's not foolproof, but worth a shot!

Hey, I actually found a way to get through to someone on the phone! I used this site called claimyr.com - it's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

ā¢Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

ā¢I was skeptical at first too, but it really did work for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

Your benefit amounts look normal to me. Here's a breakdown of what each part means: ⢠Daily Benefit: This is what you'd get per day if they paid daily (they don't, it's weekly) ⢠Weekly Benefit: This is what you actually get each week ⢠Maximum Benefit: The total amount you can receive for this claim ⢠Total Paid: What you've received so far ⢠Remaining: What's left in your claim Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

ā¢Thank you so much! This breakdown is super helpful. Do you know how long the maximum benefit usually lasts?

ā¢Glad it helped! The duration can vary, but typically SDI benefits can last up to 52 weeks. However, it depends on your specific situation and how long your doctor certifies your disability. Keep in mind, your benefits will end either when you use up your maximum benefit amount or when your doctor says you can return to work, whichever comes first.

ugh, the EDD is such a clown show 𤔠I swear they make it difficult on purpose. Hang in there OP, we're all in the same boat!

Have you tried checking your claim status online? Sometimes you can get more info there without having to deal with the phone system. Just a thought!

ā¢I did try that, but it doesn't give me all the details I need. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Pro tip: if you need to call, try using a landline if possible. For some reason, I've had better luck getting through that way. Also, Tuesdays and Wednesdays seem to be less busy. Good luck!

Your numbers definitely look normal! I had a similar breakdown when I was on SDI last year. One thing that helped me was keeping track of my certification dates - make sure you're submitting those on time every two weeks or your payments can get delayed. Also, if you're having trouble reaching the right department, try calling the SDI line specifically at 1-800-480-3287. It's different from the regular unemployment line and usually has shorter wait times. Hope this helps!

ā¢Thanks for that specific phone number! I've been calling the general EDD line which explains why I kept getting transferred around. The certification reminder is really helpful too - I almost missed my last one. Did you have any issues with delays when you were on SDI?
