Last PFL payment timing - when will final deposit hit my account?
Today is officially my last day of PFL baby bonding (used all 8 weeks). My previous payments have been coming every 2 weeks, but I'm confused about when I'll get the money for these final days. Will it be processed today? Do they wait until the end of the week? My rent is due next week and I'm trying to figure out if I need to dip into savings or if the final PFL payment will arrive in time. Anyone know how long the last payment typically takes to process and deposit?

The last payment can take up to 10 business days to process after your final day of benefits. EDD doesn't always process it on the exact last day. They usually wait until the claim officially closes and then process the final payment. When I finished my baby bonding last year, it took about 7 days for the final deposit to hit my account.

•Ugh, 10 business days?! That's basically 2 weeks. I really wish they made this clearer on their website. Guess I'll have to use some savings to cover rent then. Thanks for letting me know.

in my case it was like 3 days! i think it depends on when ur claim week ends. mine ended on a sunday and i got paid wednesday

•I had the COMPLETE opposite experience! My last payment took almost 3 weeks to process because they said there was a "system flag" on my account that needed to be manually reviewed. Had to call them like 6 times to get it fixed. The EDD system is SO BROKEN!!

The timing of your final PFL payment depends on several factors: 1. Your claim week ending date (usually Sunday) 2. Whether you have any pending certifications 3. If your employer submitted any conflicting information Typically, if everything is in order, you'll receive your final payment within 3-7 business days after your last claimed day. However, if today is your last day but it's mid-week, EDD will process it after the claim week ends (Sunday). Then add 2-3 business days for the actual deposit to appear in your account. To be safe, I would plan for 7-10 days total. If you need the money sooner for rent, you might want to check your claim status online daily and see if it shows as "paid" before the deposit arrives.

•My sister just went thru this exact thing! After her last day of baby bonding, it took exactly one week for the money to show up. But she said the online status changed to "paid" after 4 days, so at least she knew it was coming. Check ur account online!

If you desperately need to speak with someone at EDD about your final payment timing, I'd recommend trying Claimyr. It helped me actually get through to an EDD agent after spending days getting disconnected. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM?si=6N1iCQ3a8Cdb2Ay5 and their site is claimyr.com. When I needed to confirm my final payment details, I used their service and got through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes instead of spending hours redialing.

•Thanks for the suggestion. I might try that if I don't see any movement on my claim by next week. Did they explain exactly when your final payment would arrive when you called?

wait i'm confused... do you need to do something special for the last payment?? i just started my PFL baby bonding last month and now i'm worried if there's extra steps I need to do when it ends. nobody told me anything about this!

•No need to worry! There aren't any special steps for the final payment. As long as you've been certifying properly throughout your claim, the system automatically processes your final payment after your last claimed day. The only thing to be aware of is the potential timing delay that the original poster is asking about.

One important thing to remember: make sure you don't accidentally certify for days AFTER your final PFL day. I did this (certified for 2 extra days by mistake) and it caused my whole final payment to be delayed while they investigated. They can flag your account if dates don't match up with what was approved.

•I'm pretty careful with my certification dates, so I don't think that will be an issue. But good reminder! I'll double-check everything.

just wondering - r u going back to work right away? cuz if u dont have a job lined up yet u might qualify for unemployment after PFL ends! my friend did this and it helped her bridge the gap until she found a new job

•I'm actually starting back at my job next Monday. Taking this week to transition childcare with my mom before returning. But that's good info for others who might be reading this thread!

Update on payment timing expectations for 2025: EDD has actually improved their processing times for final PFL payments this year. The official guideline is now 3-5 business days after the claim week ends, though in practice it can still sometimes take longer. If you don't see payment status change to "paid" within 5 business days after your claim week ends (Sunday), that would be the time to follow up with them directly.

•" Improved lol!'I ll believe it when I see it. My cousin just finished her PFL last month and it STILL took them 9 days to process her final payment. EDD is literally the WORST stateagency!

Just wanted to update this thread for anyone who finds it later. My final payment hit my account 6 days after my last day of PFL. The online system showed "paid" status after 4 days, then took 2 more days for the actual deposit to appear in my account. So right in line with what most people here suggested. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Thx for updating! This is super helpful to know since I'll be finishing my baby bonding in about a month. Glad it worked out for you!

Congrats on finishing your baby bonding time! Based on everyone's experiences here, it sounds like 6 days is pretty typical for the final payment timing. I'm currently on week 5 of my PFL and this thread is really helpful for planning ahead. Did you have to do anything special when you went back to work, or was the transition pretty smooth? I'm a little nervous about juggling everything when I return next month.

•Hey Ethan! I'm also on PFL right now (week 3) and this thread has been super helpful for planning. I'm curious about the transition back to work too - did you have to coordinate anything special with HR or your employer before returning? I keep worrying about whether I need to give them advance notice or if there are any forms to fill out when PFL officially ends.
