How to cancel inaccurate CA EDD SDI claim? Keeps redirecting to wrong dept!

I'm so frustrated with the California EDD State Disability Insurance (SDI) system. I've been trying to cancel my paid family leave plan because it was filed inaccurately, but I keep getting redirected to the wrong department. I've called the number (800) 480-3287 countless times, but I either can't get through or end up talking to someone who can't help. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to actually reach someone who can assist with canceling an inaccurate claim?

Ugh, I feel your pain. The EDD system is a nightmare to navigate. Have you tried calling right when they open? Sometimes that works for me.

Yeah, I've tried that. No luck so far. It's like they're purposely making it difficult 🙄

Pro tip: call at 7:59am and start spamming the menu options. You might get through before the queue fills up!

I've had better luck calling later in the day, like around 3pm. Less traffic then.

I found a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? How long did you have to wait?

It really does work! I was skeptical at first too, but I got through in about 2 hours. Way better than spending all day calling myself.

$20 seems steep just to make a phone call. Is it worth it?

For me, it was totally worth it. I wasted so much time trying to get through on my own. Time is money, you know?

Have you tried reaching out to your local assembly member's office? They often have direct lines to EDD and can help expedite these issues.

I've been in the same boat, trying to cancel an inaccurate claim. Here's what finally worked for me: 1. Document everything. Keep a log of all your calls, who you spoke to, and what was said. 2. Send a written request via certified mail. This creates a paper trail. 3. File a formal appeal. Even if it's not exactly what you need, it gets your case in front of someone. 4. Contact your state representative. They can often cut through the red tape. 5. If all else fails, consider seeking legal advice. Sometimes a lawyer's letter can get things moving. It's a frustrating process, but persistence is key. Don't give up!

Thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely try these steps. Did you use a specific format for the written request?

I just wrote a clear, concise letter explaining the situation and what I needed. Make sure to include your claim number and contact info. Good luck!

I tried, but for some reason, it won't let me cancel through the portal. Says I need to speak to a representative 🙄

This is why we need to overhaul the entire unemployment system. It's not just you, it's broken for everyone. VOTE for representatives who prioritize fixing these issues!

Hey, former EDD employee here. For canceling an inaccurate claim, you need to speak with the Claims Management department. When you call, immediately ask for a tier 2 specialist in Claims Management. Don't take no for an answer. If they say they can't transfer you, hang up and try again. It might take a few attempts, but this is the fastest way to get to the right person.

I had a similar nightmare with EDD last year! What finally worked for me was sending a fax (yes, a fax in 2024 🙄) to their disability services department. The fax number is (916) 464-3180. Write a clear letter explaining that you need to cancel an inaccurate SDI claim, include your claim number, SSN, and contact info. I got a callback within 3 business days! It's old school but apparently their fax system actually works unlike their phone system.
