EDD: Disability claim ended, need help with Paid Family Leave (PFL) claim details
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. My disability claim just ended and now I need to figure out what's going on with my paid family leave claim. Anyone been through this before? What should I expect? Any tips on getting through to someone who can actually help?

Ugh, been there done that. The transition from disability to paid family leave can be a real headache. First thing you need to do is gather all your paperwork - medical records, claim numbers, everything. Then brace yourself for some long hold times when you call š

For real tho, those hold times are insane. I swear I spent half my life listening to that awful muzak šµš«

Pro tip: call right when they open. Sometimes you can catch em before the lines get crazy

Make sure you have your claim numbers, social security number, and dates of your disability claim handy. Also, write down any specific questions you have beforehand. Trust me, it's easy to forget stuff when you finally get someone on the line!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/DOLxZQb92wM

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? š¤

Yeah, it actually does! I was skeptical at first too, but I was desperate after being on hold for hours. It saved me so much time and frustration.

$20 tho? Thats kinda steep just to talk to someone...

I get it, but think about how much time you waste on hold. For me, it was worth it to not lose a whole day waiting around.

Here's what you need to know about transitioning from disability to paid family leave: ā¢ First, make sure your disability claim is fully closed out. You can't have overlapping claims. ā¢ You'll need to file a new claim for PFL. It's a separate process from disability. ā¢ Gather all your medical documentation. You'll need proof of the family member you're caring for and their condition. ā¢ Be prepared for a possible gap in payments. Sometimes there's a delay between the end of one benefit and the start of another. ā¢ Keep track of all your communication with the EDD. Write down who you talked to and when. ā¢ If you run into issues, don't be afraid to reach out to your local representative's office. They can sometimes help push things along. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed info! š This is exactly what I needed. Quick question - do you know how long the PFL claim usually takes to process?

Glad I could help! Processing time can vary, but typically it takes about 2 weeks if everything is in order. However, I've seen it take up to a month if they need additional information or if the system is backlogged.

Has anyone tried applying online? Is it any easier than calling?

Online is def better than calling imo. At least you can do it anytime and don't have to deal with hold music š¶

Yeah, my doctor forgot to sign one form and it set me back like 3 weeks. Triple check everything before you submit!

I think they expanded it to cover more family members you can take leave for. Not 100% sure tho

Last I checked, they increased the number of weeks you can take too. Might wanna double check on the EDD website for the most up-to-date info
