SDI payment delay since 11/17 - no updates, can't pay bills, facing homelessness. Help!
I'm at my wits end with this disability insurance situation. My last payment came through on November 17th, and I submitted the required form on December 12th. Since then, radio silence. No payments, no updates, nothing. My mental health is taking a nosedive because I can't pay my bills. I'm seriously worried about becoming homeless if this doesn't get sorted soon. Has anyone else dealt with this kind of delay? Any advice on how to get things moving?

Man, I feel you. I was in the same boat a few months back. It's like they forget we're real people with real bills to pay. Have you tried calling them? I know it's a pain, but sometimes that's the only way to get answers.

•Yeah, I've tried calling but it's impossible to get through. I spend hours on hold and then get disconnected. It's so frustrating!

•Pro tip: call right when they open. Like, set an alarm and be ready to dial the second they're supposed to start answering phones. It's not foolproof, but it's worked for me before.

•Thanks for the tip! I'll give that a shot tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed 🤞

This is ridiculous. The system is broken and they don't care about us. I've been waiting for 3 months now. THREE MONTHS! How are we supposed to survive?

Hey, I know it's tough but hang in there. Have you considered reaching out to your local representative? Sometimes they can help push things along. Also, check if there are any local non-profits that assist with housing - they might be able to help prevent homelessness while you're waiting for this to get sorted.

•That's a good idea, I hadn't thought of contacting my rep. I'll look into that. And thanks for the non-profit suggestion, I'll see what's available in my area.

Okay, listen up. I've been through this rodeo before and here's what you need to do: 1. Document everything. Every call, every form, every interaction. Dates, times, names if possible. 2. Send a written request for an update. Use certified mail so they can't claim they didn't receive it. 3. File a formal complaint with the insurance commissioner in your state. Sometimes this lights a fire under them. 4. If you have a doctor or therapist, ask them to write a letter explaining the impact this delay is having on your health. Send copies to the disability office. 5. Look into emergency assistance programs in your area. Some counties have short-term help for people in your situation. 6. Don't give up. It's exhausting, but keep pushing. You've got this!

have you tried faxing your forms? i know it sounds old school but sometimes it works better than online submission. worth a shot imo

•I haven't tried faxing, actually. Do you know if there's a specific fax number for disability insurance forms?

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. After weeks of trying to get through, I was desperate enough to try anything. It's not ideal to pay, but it was worth it to finally get some answers.

•How long did you have to wait once they started calling?

•It took about an hour and a half, but I just went about my day and they called me when an agent was on the line. Way better than being stuck listening to hold music!

This might sound weird, but have you tried reaching out on social media? Sometimes tweeting at them or messaging on Facebook can get a response. Public pressure and all that.

•I hadn't considered that. Do you know if they have an active social media presence?

•Yeah, they're pretty active on Twitter. Just be polite but firm. Something like "Day 30 of waiting for an update on my disability claim. Any assistance would be appreciated @[their handle]
